Edited by: Rod Blaine on 23/03/2004 15:38:59 Not the Raven.
Tempest would probably be my choice.
edit: oh forgot the why...
NOT the Raven because of all Jim Raynor's been shouting. It just sucks at anything apart from short ranged combat. It's useless for NPC killing and generally is unloved.
The megathron is much like your apocalypse.
The tempest is the currently strongest Battleship. _______________________________________________

Megathron with blasters+MWD. Travel setup = PvP setup

Megathron if you're camping gates/travelling around a lot.
Tempest is also a good choice but you'd have to settle for the unconventional if you want a good pvp/travel combination - 800mm's on a Tempest.

I would say go for the Tempest! (if u got really good skill)
Raven is nice and easy to fit, makes a good shield-tank too. good starter pvp ship i would say but the missile-cost makes it quite isk-intensiv unless u produce them yourself
Megathron, as others said befor, is very deadly in close-combat eg gate-camping, also fitting it with an MWD makes it great for traveling
Tempest is a very good dmg-dealer and fitted with 1400mm arguably the most deadly ship in long range combat atm. Problem is u need good skills for fitting all modules u need to survive in pvp.
Besides: Typhoon makes a great solo ship! great shield/armor-tank, good dmg-dealing and very good for traveling
May you live in interresting times. |

I saw something sorta like this in another thread that i will ref and agree with. It depends on your playstyle, personally i go Tempest b/c i like the role of 'artillery' support in fleet PvP and it has a little better base speed so while in transit get an edge, plus since i dont need much cap for firing can really stack on the mods when i need a more defense role or tricked out for long trips. Plus if there is ever a questionable battle i would rather be firing from long range than close range. On the other hand if you are a close up play styler then go with the mega, that thing is unmatched in dmg if you can get in close enough b4 being handed you manhood

Yep, just as hard as decent setup mega doing it's thing would******a raven. pretty pointless debate. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

mega Vs raven isnt a problem...
but the reason i really hate the raven is becouse its ugly, i dont like missiles, not enough turrets for my taste, its very slow and did i mention its ugly?

nah its good looking
and for the raven vs mega part it varies i guess, range it starts on - equipment on both side's, skills, and the pilots them selves

I got a Raven and a Tempest, I like both of them. A Raven has actually the best chances to survive in a 1 vs 1 battle imo, because it doesn't depend on distance as much as turret ships do. It depends on what you want to do with it.
If you want to deal out maximum damage then go for the Megathron, I would get me that ship aswell, just can't fly it.

I got a Tempest, a Raven, and a Typhoon, not to mention a few other BS. The funny thing about the Tempest, Raven and Typhon, they appear to be variations of the same basic theme design.

Typhoon, has to be my choice, it has the best firepower/cost ratio, it has a range and rof bonus to L-projectile, good speed and CPU to spare -------------- When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this - you haven't. ------------------ (Thomas Edison) |

NO NO NO DONT SAY THAT THINKS ADMI.raven its a very nice ship.but u need a lot of skills to use it .this is the only disadvantage of a raven.

Raven and Tempest. If you don't have good missle, shield and all that then go for the Tempest. Personaly I like everything that is Caldari more then anything else and won't admit that it isn't good, but it's true, you probably losing money when it comes to kill NPCs

Edited by: Orree on 24/03/2004 14:36:12 Thanks for your post, No i got a different circumstance, i can afford to buy 1 tier 2 BS and buy 1 tier 1 and arm them, Probably i got now is what to do, The possible combination i thinking, would be, tempest/Scorpion. Raven/typhoon megathron/scorpion/tempest.
God i am confused, my battle style is a mixture between Long Range, and Upclose and personal. what i would like is a ship capable of doing both well and a Tier 1 ship to support.

Well in my opinion .... If you are looking for a tier 1 and 2 BS combo for pvp then there is the obvious choice and then others that i cant think of without having to think which is something i dont feel like doing at the moment... Scorpion for EW support Megathron for dmg

a tempest has 8 hi slots 6 gun and 4 missile 5 med slots 6 low slots cpu of 550 i think grid of 12500
Im runing 6 1400s and 2 h-50s, but i have to compromise in the defence of my ship so i can run this setup as i have to put on 4 reactor control units(low slot, i also have engineering lvl5) to have the grid to support 6 1400s they take 3250 grid each. STOP complaining about the the draw backs of ur ship and setup ur ship to use the good aspects of ur ship (sorry getting sick of everybody complaining about the crappy bs they have).
All that is truely urs, is whats in ur head. |

what you talking about raven aint that powerful, 4 425's and some named h-50s is damn powerful, good shield tanker and whatever. :P Mimiru > It'd be a tie, the monkies nerfed pooflinger wouldnt have enough tracking to hit the parrot orbiting him, but the parrot's beak is so small it couldnt break the monkey's fur tanking. |

Bah, no battleship requires more skills to be really effective than the Tempest. Raven isn't the second on the list either.

What the last poster said (not the troll)
Too many nub's rushing for Tempests (no offence). If you dont have very high gunnery skills you will struggle with a Tempest to get the best out of it.
For PVP a Scorp is your best option to start with as its very useful, flexible and not too expensive, with Raven becoming next step IMHO. Although Raven lacks CPU so be a very good pilot you would need exemplary skills in engineering and good mods. A Raven can be pretty awesome one on one I assure you.
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

Since I fly a tempest yes its true, high skills are needed to make it effective. Its a all around effective ship though, being great at nice far range (1400mm's) and also great for a nice close range brawl (800mm's). Overall its one tough cookie if used properly.
Now as for megathron, been months since I flew one of those but back then (talking waaaay back when lasers where uber), people disliked it alot. However I found it to be a great ship. Just like today with decent skills (not nearly as much as needed for a tempest) it can be a deadly weapon. Overall its a great rounder ship as the tempest is, for range (not the best in) but close range (the top at) its a basic opposite of the tempest for fighting styles.
Raven is your long range support (at least thats what I've seen it used for the most) ship. It can be deadly but I'm a disliker of all Caldari ships so I'd say no fricken way. Fear The Bunny

Well truely it heavly relys on missiles, which in all it still pretty good right now but needs tweaking. Then again maybe all the raven setups that I've come across in combat just truely suck and only seen it as a supporting vessel. Like what I said I dispise caldari ships . Even though one day I'll probley have one. Fear The Bunny

Jim,
Just saw the other post about missiles and for sure if those changes happen I will agree that the raven will be much better of and a formitable enemy. Until then its just another ship that needs a little tweaking to me. Fear The Bunny

I fly and like the Raven for the simple reason that No EW modules in Eve can prevent the Raven to shoot his 60 FoF cruises at target with 6 sieges mounted.
No other ship in Eve can be as dangerous as the raven while being Target jammed, scrambled and webbed at same time.

Backing up what Estios says. Dont get the Temp unless you are committing some serious skills to projectile and engr. Based on your update saying you like all play style I'd go with Scorp/Temp. The scorp is a very nice to have in any fleet PvP assuming you use it it as a EW platform. Problem is it sucks at NPC - entire the Tempest, in my opinion this is prolly the best NPC ship, long range blasting those damns scramming pies MUHAHAHAHA! Just make sure you go bulk up the skills for it if you go PvPe
