I think there have been map problems since the first revelations release.
I'm so tired of it, because i cant reproduce it and therefore cant bugreport it... aaargh
The map just sometimes dissapeare...if i unflatten then i can see som clumped up text in the distance but thats it. I have to relog to fix the map

Just wanted to chip in and say I have this issue as well at times. No clue as to what triggers it. I'll open map and get nothing but a black screen, zooming, flattening and unflattening don't do anything to fix. Switching to system map and back to star map doesn't work either. Re-logging is the only way I know to fix it.

Yup, same problem here. It is practically impossible to reproduce it and submit bug report. No idea what triggers it but problem is persistent. Tried to clear cache but no help.
It is very annoying when map flattens and goes at the bottom of screen. Relog is only way to solve it ... and that is not always an option.

I just want to chime in and say I have seen this as well. Opening and closing the map doesn't fix it. Docking and redocking doesn't fix it. Flipping between the starmap and the solar system map doesn't fix it, changing the 'color stars by' or 'names' or 'lines' options don't fix it either.

Dito. I found the only way to solve it so far is to reboot the client. Donsent take 20 seconds but woule rather not.

Edited by: Demona Diabolicus on 19/01/2008 18:44:53 yeah I have had and still have all the problems you guys wrote about.
And I got in addition such bug that sometimes, if you switch to map view or back while docking/undocking, the map will not appear at all anymore. Pressing F10 just doesn't do anything. Only fix is to restart client.
And then there's this all grey map problem still. In some patchnote there was mentioned some fix, which obviously didn't actually fix the problem. Restarting the client fixes it and a little bit better workaround I found was to disable the "bloom" permanently when using HDR.

Edited by: Foak on 20/01/2008 19:31:16 I seem to get this a lot, though with me it just affects the star map, zooming into solarsystem view is fine, zooming out again is no help.
Sometimes svery sytem on the star map is condensed onto one point, sometimes all black or with just outlines of stars ... at a loss what triggers it though

Same problems here. The flatten map simply bugs and sucks till the first revelations patch.

In addition to map bug one more thing related to this is broken at least for me.
SHOW TACTICAL OVERVIEW: on Solarsystem Map it shows circles on 5AU, 10AU etc ... what is immense help for scanning. But every now and then circles vanish from Solarsystem Map (as if show tactical overview is turned off) although if you move to ship view Tactical Overview is still present.
Only way to solve that is to relog. It is practically impossible to reproduce issue and bug report it. Sometimes show tactical overview will work whole day and sometimes will broke after 10 mins. I do believe this has something with jumping in new system but cannot figure out what and why.
This is extremely annoying especially when you are doing exploration and every few jumps have to relog to get your tactical overview back.

For me, it's nothing that complicated.
I undock. Switch to solar system view. Warp to gate. Jump through gate. Try to switch back to normal view. I cannot.
Jumping back through gets me out of the solar system view and back to normal, except the map buttons (Star Map, Solar System View, Close) are still there, and of course I cannot then use the starmap or solar system map. The "You are here" comment bubble appears off and on. Bookmarks are visible, as if I'm still in the solar system view, even though the view is the standard view. I get weird sound effects, too, that I don't normally get after jumping through a gate... sounds like radio communications. The view is screwed up, centered on the gate and not my ship.
Worse, the first time I dock after this begins, I don't get the station environment. I get a view as if I'm moving through space with stars whizzing by. Undocking and aborting the undock gets me the right panel with pilots/agents/etc, but still the background is stars whizzing by. Sound effects remain broken, and the starmap remains inaccessible, until I log.
Warping immediately starts the warp tunnel effect, although I do not enter warp instantly. The effect continues even when I am exiting warp, resulting in a weird visual where the warp tunnel extends away from my destination.
Subsequent dockings load the station environment, but do not fix the warp effect or the inability to access the solar system/star maps.
How hard is it to keep track of, and properly reset, the starmap state?

same here. wish they just fix it and stop giving us this "reproduction steps failed" bs. they must know there's problems with the starmap by now.

Yeah. the map is really bugged. Makes me crazy to restart the Client every 7 systems during Roaming.
I wish the old map, without animation and so on. Instand has already a small fast Animation. Nobody needs that. And btw the colordesign of the old map was alot better. I mean the map bevore relevation.
I have more probs with the map when i am in gang, esspecially when i have Squadcommand.

Same here. I normaly find that it's caused by docking/jumping while having the map in Solarsystem mode (but closed).

If you can reproduce this then you can file a bug report and we'll look into it.

Map has never consistently worked right for me either. The bug I hate the most is when it zooms in to some extreme level and you can't zoom out. If you right click, it gives a drop down menu for some system no where near where I am. The screen is just black and there is nothing you can do to zoom out.
Makes me wish they had never put in this fancy dancy zoom in buggy map in the first place. Functionality over gizmos please.

This has been my experience as well. World map is dead. Solar system map works just fine. Flipping between the two doesn't fix the world map.
Also, I'm noticing that the world map dying happens quite a bit (but not always, and not only) when I dock with the map open.

Bug report submitted. However it is not my responsibility as a paying customer to give exact procedure to reproduce bugs. Too many people encounter this situation and CCP should have enough diversified testing machines, where this bug should have popped up.. oh wait they don't :boot.ini:.

exactly. the last bug report I submitted I made SURE to include everything one could possibly need to reproduce it and the reply I get is something along the lines of: please send logs next time. it's like wtf. I'm not a beta tester. I'm a paying customer. shove the log up your @!$# and look into it.

If you want to be helpful, do your part to make the game better - that is what eve has always been. If you want some superpolished hands off game - then there are others.
didn't you know EvE never left Beta?

Good idea let's code it for ourselves! It's not enough to let them know that their game is bugged here and there, but they demand us to reproduce the bug, file a bugreport which will be answered if you are lucky. It took about an hour last time when I tried to send a report, but the funny thig was, they needed a log file which's size exceeded the limit can be uploaded through the bug report sending sistem, so they told me that I can join an irc channel, look for someone there and ask him to be so kind and receive the logfile.. then, they might look into the problem.
If I were sending a bug report again, I'd send it about the bug report system itself.

For venting over a crap system use general chat, not the gd forum, even if it is carp at times
On that note for the map to just go blank (at least in my case) i need to use it afew times while jumping through different systems and it racks up logs, once i zip em they're well over the 2 meg limit, i know it's there for a reason but really it would be helpful if someone could look into increasing the cap.
I've had nothing but good experiences when dealing with the bh guys but only because i've had an hour to spend fiddling with the attachment to get it sent, the past while (like most folk) i just don't have that time for something that should be so much easier and as a result, you've missed at least 7 bug reports from me alone that i've actually seen devs asking for -------------------------

after all that work on your part the best they could offer you is: we "might" look into it? wtf.
