Boarding of empty vessels is not realistic
as i said some where else today - not realistic (not in 2008 and certainly not in 3008/4008 +)
i can lock my house, my car, my computer, even my filing cabinet - why can't the pilot of an eve star ship lock his vessel?
to belabor the point even further .... he can lock his secure container and anchor it .... POS gets a password, accelerators can be locked ......
any way - i think it should be lockable - no problem with some kind of expensive and hard to acquire technology/ skills that can hack or break in to a locked vessel but entering empty ships should be not a 'by default' its 'up for grabs' kind of thing
p.s. please forgive me if this was said b4 - but searching the forum can be time consuming and i just had to get this off my chest Und.r C.NsTrkTi.n ..

Space ships flying in space almost the same way that submarines "swim" in the sea is not realistic either. Your point being ?

How often are ships of consequence abandoned permanently or temporarily (ships other than shuttles, noob frigs, etc.)? Does it happen frequently enough to make it an issue?

my point simply was and is - its not realistic - there is no explanation for it
as for ships swimming like submarines - i donĘt think that helps (me) much
btw - i have a explanation for space swimming that i will post one of these days - not that any one is likely to care
Originally by: Judaris Delinnea How often are ships of consequence abandoned permanently or temporarily
well perhaps if they could be locked there might be a application - but as you suggest - it's not really an issue.
I guess you both right - im sorry - im just a realist (some of us are) - others are strategists and more worry about tactics
any one care for a game of chess ?

This may be a minor issue, but so what? Its beneficial for many reasons not just realism. Lets say you wanna abaddon a ship with all its modules and such and let someone take it for spin/or keep it. Why should you allow all of eve access to your ship? I dont see one problem with this one bit. Hacking could also be use with this.

Perhaps a "Boarding" skill under Spaceship Command? At level 5 you'd have like a 90% chance to succeed, every 5 minutes.

I think the OP is just talking about using locks with password encryption, not skills. But what ever floats your boat I guess

Oh, I'm a realist too. It's just that I work in project management, so my sense of reality extends to weighing the cost of implementation versus value when adding features.

Quote: cost of implementation

What about the cost of our dollars we pay to CCP. I can understand if an idea is waaay out of bounds in terms of not sticking to the fundamental game mechanics. But when it comes to small fixes like these CCP is gonna here about them, regardless if they're busy or not. Thats realism for you.

and neither are the spaceships flying around the way they do. According to your philosophy...CCP should throw the whole concept in the toilet and start over again.

haven't you heard? Spaceship Command skills are not actually used to fly the ship... They are used for lockpicking. The higher your skill the less you damage the lock on the spaceship's door (which also doubles as it's CPU, therefore less damage = higher bonuses)
so it's actually Caldari Battleship Lockpicking Rank 8

Ok guys I think we covered that eve isn't exactly the most realistic space game. It's not a sim, its a pvp-oriented mmo and lets just leave it at that. So, lets drop the super clever potshots and view this idea on its merit alone. That crap shoulda ended with the second post.
What we have is a new way of allowing folks to let friends have their ships or take them for a spin with all modules intact, and not having to worry about some yahoo getting inside it before them. Hacking anyone, what if someone leaves there ship thats worth something on the market floating about. High level hacking could take advantage of this.

You can lock your house, your car, your computer and you filing cabinet. I can break into your house, break into your car, hack into your computer, and pick the lock on your filing cabinet. Seems pretty simple to me.

i shall try very hard not to reply as i am reminded now that EvE != reality

Ridiculous
You the OP will now side with those who admonished your idea from the beginning. On what basis of reality are you guys placing this view on? The game or ours. Seriously, if making unwarrented comparisons to support your deluded egos makes you feel happy, then go ahead. I for one give up on you guys, the lot of you. Smug post after smug post, no substance whatsoever.
So long Features and Ideas thread, and good riddance.

Id say only if you had per example a 2-5 min timer for securing your ship or something. So you cant just lock jettison and leave. ---------------------------------------------- Improving Escalations |
