I..still don't know where to find a search function to search the forums on Eve, so I'm posting. Probably for the billionth time. Is there a fix for the problem where the text appears as boxes? I'm fully willing to do some manual labor to get it to work properly :P
Also, if it helps, dual booting Windows XP and Ubuntu 7.10. The Windows install also has Eve on it, fully updated, if something of use can be grabbed from it.
CPU: 1.7ghz Intel Centrino Duo T2250
GFX: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 945GM 20061017 x86/MMX/SSE2
RAM: 512mb, I believe that it's shared with the gfx card.

Also, I saw this in the "known issues" under Patch Notes.
Unicode letters are not supported and therefore show up as squares.
If this is the problem where all the text shows up as large white boxes in Linux, isn't the easiest fix to just copy the font from the windows directories, stick them into the linux directories, and redirect the linux install to point to using that font? Sorry if my tech jargon sucks, I'm not as great as I'd like to be at this.

Hahah, I knew it would be easy. Except now it's booting into black-screen. Someone should make a link to a package for the langauges so that people won't have to jack them from a windows install.

Alright. Blackscreen on boot fixed with this thread, but still getting white boxes. Time to try something else I saw..

Tried this, except with .cedega, but still nothing...I'm still getting the huge white boxes.

By all means. Also, once I make my way through the login (yay for memorizing.), when I get to the character screen it crashes out. And everything is still white-boxed.

Afair it's driver problem... but i'm not sure if others with intel gfx chip experience this or not, it may be even hardware-related.

So...does this mean that I'm going to have to stick with having a winxp install on the side for the sake of gaming? I was going to plan on keeping it anyway, but I was just hoping that Eve on Linux would have better resource management..

We are aware of the Transgaming and Unicode issues and it is on the list of things to get fixed asap, but I do not have a timeframe to quote you as yet.
