Hello my babies,
I bought a new computer all nice and shiney for the trinity patch. Here's what I got:
4400+ x 2 2GB RAM Asus Mobo 300GB HDD MSI 256MB nVidia 8600GT
The card cost me about ú60 which I thought was a bargain, but I've been having no end of problems with it. Keep getting freezing, stuttering, and the biggest problems is texture corruption See Here
I've exhausted all attempts at resolving this issue, no-one seems to be able to help me.
So, I'm considering sending it back (www.ebuyer.com) and maybe changing it for a different one.
My question is, what would be a better choice that's (more or less) in my price range. I don't mind an extra ú40 or so on top, if it gets results. I'm not going to pay ú350 for a gfx card that is worth 10% of that within 2 years.
Help maaay please!
Cheers. Lord

Really, this should be going to technical issues instead.
AFAIK I don't think there's anything wrong with the video card. Have you tried installing the latest drivers for it? (don't forget to uninstall the old drivers first)
Someone at technical could probably help more, if all else fails try a geforce 8800. ---

Assuming you've troubleshot the software, texture problems usually indicate a problem with the RAM on the video card. Can't comment on performance, as its way to personal as to what's "good enough", but I can't imagine that you should have any problems with the current model since I've run the game with premium graphics on a 128mb 8600GT mobile, without self-shadowing and HDR.

I'd love to diagnose the problem first to be honest. Is there a program I can use to test the integrity of the RAM on the card?
Thx

Im running Trinity on full graphics with a 7900gt, amd +3800 dual core, and 2gb DDR ram.
If not the shoddy-brand name of the card, then its probably something else in your system.

Get a ATI 3850 for a similar price. And its a much better card.

Try completely disconnecting one screen and see if you still get those texture problems.

Update DX9 or 10 for Microsoft and then reinstall the latest drivers. Some times auto-updates from MS dose not add this.
If that dose not work, look at the power rails of your power supply and make sure there not jumping around or dropping below spec.
Also check the cards 6 pin power connection in the back end of the card. Some times these don't hold so well.
The last thing is to make sure your cards fan is running and also the fan on the north bridge if it has one since a heat issue will do the same thing.

I don't know of any dedicated software for that purpose, but if other games (or pgrograms that uses 3d acceleration extensivly) behave oddly or similar that's pretty much the last nail in the coffin. Try 3Dmark or one of your other games. Did you switch from an ATi card to a nvdia one without uninstalling the drivers?

The 512MB 8800GT is the best value for money out of the current top-tier cards from what I can tell. It's not quite as good as an 8800GTX or 8800 Ultra, but it costs much less. It also uses less power than either of them. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |

I am running one with an AMD dual core 3.2 ghz and 3.5gb of ram, and I am getting about 35fps with a full fleet and full graphics enabled. Its a really nice card for the price. If your board permits it, get an SLI enabled card so you can run two of them if you decide you need to in the future.

There's a known problem with certain batches of the 8600GT. I had the same problem as have a tonne of other folks.
If you contact the card manufacturer you can get a return code and send it back for a replacement out of a batch that isn't totally fuxxored. Returning it to the store might just end you up with another fuxxored card.
If you can send it back to the store, it might be worth getting a different model. the 8800 GT (as people have been saying) is a better card and not outrageously more expensive -- and in most of the benchmarking performance is about equivalent to the other, more expesive 8800 cards. The 8800GT is more than the 8600GT, but not stupid-more. It is about the best value out there.

I've had similar problems. The thing is, it's probably the card. First install a program that allows you to tweak your VC card fan, put it at 100%. See if these problems keep popping up - you can also run an Atitool for 30+ min to see if you get any artifacts.
If they still do, it's probably the drivers. 8600GT has had driver issues untill recently, on XP. So, if you use XP, install the 169.21 forceware drivers, those fixed it for me. I used to have the same problem and i found out later it was a triple problem - so to speak. First, CCP when they put up Trinity, it had a crapload of visual bugs, and incompatibilities - this was fixed later on. Second, if you look on google for "8600GT video stuttering" or "8600gt freeze" your gonna get a crapload of hits. Third, i found that by reverting my chipset drivers from the latest to the ones that came with the mobo - nf4 ultra @ SLI, i get rid of some of the instability problems.
