I fly a Vexor, use medium iron charges. Optimal range and accuracy falloff are both 4000. Why do they hardly ever hit?

the faster your guns have to turn to follow the target, the less accurate they become.
Try fitting a webifier in your midlsots. That should slow your target right down and you'll see your blasters tear it up.

If you are that close anyways, you might as well be using antimatter ammo and doing a lot more damage.

as your ships and guns get bigger you have to start flying differently to hit different targets.
general rule of thumb for a blaster boat is if its bigger than you, or the same size, then get in a tight orbit. get that right and you will be hitting them more than they can hit you, definitely the preferred way to fly
if its smaller than you then you might need to look at drawing the target into a straight line by either flying at it or away from it.
when i was new putting a webber on my thorax made the world of difference for hitting other cruisers. when i got my first megathron i stuck an orbit up round a webbed thorax rat and not a single shot landed. thats the fun of using turrets, it really does make a difference on how you fly your ship .
i hit the same problem in my interceptor, with the AB going and orbiting one of the tiny rogue drones my blasters couldnt hit. the moment i broke off the engagement to fly out of range and re-think the drone popped as my guns got their tracking. it is entirely possible to orbit a target too fast in a nimble blaster boat .
of course exceptions exist. i can happily hit a smaller target orbiting me in some cases. but if your ever struggling to hit then you need to think about luring the target into a straight line. webbers and target painters will help you no end in controlling the battle. but both of those modules should go hand in hand with flying the ship in the right way. so, you know the tricks, now you gotta learn when each trick works the best, and thats going to come from trying the tricks. fly fun Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage. |

What is the target and situation? As people have stated a web to reduce your target's transversal velocity helps - or if you're faster than your target you can pull straight away - then straight towards the target to minimize transversal velocity.
In pvp - it sometimes helps to have a neutralizer - if your target is smaller than you and moving too fast - neutralize their cap and their MWD shuts down - then web them... __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Since the guns hardly ever hit, it sounds like a problem with the cruiser moving too fast rather than the target. You can add tracking scripts or move to heavy electron blasters (which do much less damage but have better tracking). That might help your situation. Alternately, you might need to slow down. Say drop a speed module or two. Or add some armor.

Web the target. Turn your MWD off.
If you still can't hit train Motion Prediction. If you STILL can't hit fit a tracking comp.
If you STILL can't hit then never fit guns again. Fly a Raven instead. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |

yeah, matched alignment and speed = perfect tracking. more for the advanced course in flight when the OP gets the hang of the basics tho, still, it is good advice
i used to do a look at on the target, swing the view round to face where the target was flying, then double click dead ahead. very useful for the smaller targets cos you cant see them half the time when ure zoomed out to get an overview on the situation.
anyone else got some tips on how to fly? eve isnt as point and click as most other mmo's so a lot of our newbies are gonna have to learn a whole new set of skills. It was already touched on, but I'll add my spin to it:
Orbit is good if both targets are going slow, but straight line, or straffing runs, are better if you have some speed. If your target is faster than you, you will have to adapt as they will be controlling the battle.
Definately use a web as much as possible. If you are fighting under 10km anyways, it's a must have. For close range fighters, it's one of the 3 mandatory pvp mods, MWD/AB, Web, Scram. It will help you control the pace of battle, and keep your target inside of the range you want them to be at, or at least slow them down enough to pummel them into dust.
If your target is moving very fast at an orbit outside of 10km, watch the orbit for a second or two, and then double click in space in a direction that you think will intercept them. Hit your AB or MWD, and try to close the distance a little bit that way. With some practice, which you'll need, you'll get this tactic down pretty well. If your target is an interceptor, well, you're screwed anyways :p Just send the drones after them and hope for some luck.
If you are fighting something as big, or bigger than yourself, get as close as possible. Set your orbit for 500m and get in there nice and tight. Pulse your MWD/AB and web the target so they don't get away. You might be webbed as well, but pulsing your AB/MWD will help you avoid some of their damage, and still let you track enough to bring the hurt.
Or, play the hit and run game. You can do this by setting your orbit for 500m and your Keep at distance for 15km. Hit your orbit button, and turn on the weapons. When you get to about 2-3km away from your target, hit the keep at range button. When you get to about 6-8km, hit your orbit button again. This will let you keep your transversal way down, and your tracking will improve significantly. www.the-bastards.com Ask me about recruiting options |
