Hi Folks. I have a small Problem. I have started out as a Prospektor and I am quite happy with. I love to mine and I love to haul. I have made some good money the last few weeks. I played the Trial 4 Days and then I bought the Full Account. Assume the following Ships: Navitas - 2x Miner I, Shield Booster, Expanded Cargohold I, Hobgoblin 1 Drone, Afterburner. Iteron Mark II - a Cannon, 2x Exp. Cargohold I, Shield Booster.
Now I've searched a Miner-Agent, because I thougt the Missions would be good for me. The first 3 or 4 Missions where excellent. But now I have a Mission, I can't even think of completing it. I have to warp to a jumpgate and make it through 2 Rooms. No Kill is needed since they are open. Room 1 : Is makeable with the Navitas, but the Hauler is too Slow. Room 2 : Impossible for both Ships. 4 Rats will show up and kill me. Distance from Entry to last Gate: 100 km.
So, where is the point? I have bought an Incursus to clear them first and then fly out the Cargo with the Iteron, but I can't even think of fitting it. I am just lacking the skills. Sure, I am in different Help-Channels, but to find someone who is around or willing to do 20+ Jumps just for a mission is difficult. And begging for help always when it comes to shoot some rats is not a good idea for me. This mission did never complete, so I lost standing with this Agent. Oh, btw finding a suitable Agent was very hard. Even impossible with Ingame Tools. The Map is nice, but the Menus are very small and often they don't work correctly (expanding where > is shown). The last Agent I was (the one where you get a Navitas), didn't send me to another Agent too, so I had no plan what to do and how to find a suitable Agent for my Profession. I looked into the NPC-Corp, but I have a standing of 0.56 and the next Agent needs a Standing of 0.6.. funny. For the last few Days, I just didn't do any missions at all. Any Suggestions?

Most of the times when you find a mission undoable it's because people didn't read the mission objective properly. Maybe because you didn't have to kill anything or whatever, or that you just have to get somewhere close (scouting) and then you can leave.

Navitas is not a combat frigate. Iteron should stay away from combat at all costs. Since you also cancelled the mission, I cannot help you with that mission.
If you are looking for an agent: 1) Find a corp to work for 2) Show info on the corp 3) Find an agent
If you have further questions, please ask.

I understood the Mission :). I don't have to kill anything. I just have to make it through 2 Rooms. But Combat is unavoidable, the Rats find you. I know that a Hauler is not made for Combat, but even the Cargoload of the Navitas is too small for doing this mission (got a warning). I don't know if I can fly twice. But where is the point in buying a Combat-Frig if you are a Miner? It costs too much time to learn all necessary skills to fit it properly.. A mate in my Corp made me a training plan for Weapons. It will take 21 days to process it. So, waiting 21 Days to solve a mission which is marked for miners?

You know you can decline a mission once every 4 hours per agent before you accept, without loss of standings?
What mission was it?

Note that no single agent in EVE gives 100% missions of a specific type. It is always a mix. It could be that instead of a mining mission, you got dealth a combat mission (worlds collide by the sound of it). Next time that happens, either fly a combat frigate (if you can fly a navitas you can fly an atron or incursus which would both have less trouble dealing with the mission) or decline the mission.
Missioning as a miner is a relatively new thing. You might want to stick to just mining belts for now. Also see about joining a mining corp.

I don't think so. WC 1 r2 gate is only about 20-30 km away, and ship crew are only 40 m3 total, which any combat ship can spare.

Knorker, I am a fairly new player myself, so I understand the dilemma. I *think* I know what mission you mean. I know that you have given up on it already, so it is a moot point, but you might get that mission, or one like it, again soon. So, a few things to consider:
Yes, you can visit the same mission bookmark as many times as you need/want until a) you turn it in, b) you refuse to complete it or c) it expires.
For most level 1 missions, it doesn't take a supremely uber ship to kill the rats. Be methodical and patient and by all means, use a combat frig to clear the rooms, then come back with your miner and/or hauler. I've completed many level 1s with hybrids & civilian mods. The key is to keep your combat frig simple and focused; don't try to deck it out like you're gonna PvP. I recommend using the Incursus, load it with whatever blasters you have (if you only have civilian blasters, do upgrade to a slightly better version, but don't waste alot of cash on the expensive versions), then stick an ab (afterburner) and as many protective pieces as you can on there. With your ship fitted, load up with antimatter rounds and then find the rats, orbit @ 500 m and pick 'em off one by one. Oh, and don't forget to use that drone!
Also, you are in a corp... why don't you ask a mate to come along and do the shooting if you aren't comfortable with it? You now have the option of forming a gang/fleet and turning in the mission on behalf of the gang/fleet and thereby sharing the spoils with them. It's fun for the whole family. ;->
One last thing - not to go too off subject, but you might want to consider dedicating just a little bit of time to train up 3 levels of the Social skill, which will then allow you to train the Connections skill, both of which increase your NPC corp standings by a percentage. It's a great way to maximize your mission running potential.
Hope this helps! Fly safe.

Ridiculous. For killing four rats in a level 1 mission, you just need to be able to fit some sort of gun and a shield booster/armor repairer. With that in mind, here's an acceptable training plan:
Gunnery I Small Hybrid Turret I Mechanic I Repair Systems I
These are all rank 1 skills so this should take no more than 2 hours with horrible skills; more likely it will be closer to one hour. Then fit railguns (probably 125mm) into your turret slots, and an armor repairer into one of your lows, and you should be good to go. Ideally you can add an afterburner or cap rechargers in the mid slots if you have the skills to fit them, but I reckon you'll be OK with just three railguns and the repper. Don't forget to take some ammo!
Alternatively, you can fit some shield modules on your Iteron. Yes, it is not made for combat, but it should be able to take the damage from 4 rats. If you add a shield booster and some extenders/resitance amplifiers it will be fine. You can even fit one railgun to it and slowly take out the rats, it should be able to do this without much trouble!

Edited by: Minerva Vulcan on 21/01/2008 13:52:28 Here's a little trick that should make you able to do any L1 mission as Gallente.
The Imicus. It has a 15m3 Drone Bay, which means 3 Light Drones.
Setup:
Highs: Drone Link Augmentor I 125mm Railgun
Mids: 1MN Afterburner Small Shield Booster
Lows: Nanofiber Internal Structure Overdrive Injector
This should make easy work of any L1 combat mission. What you do is warp to the mission space. Get a group or all the rats to aggro onto you. Release the drones. With a 35km base lock range and the boost in Drone control range from the augmentor, couples with the speed from your afterburner and low slot fittings, you should be able to keep plenty of range so that nothing can hit you, while your drones run about and kill everything. Just set a 30-35km Orbit on a rat and speed about while your drones take care of everything.
This can work for very low skilled new players, and works even better with a moderate investment in drone skills.
(Edit: The railgun isn't there so much for damage as it is for you to shoot at rats that haven't aggro'd onto you to get their attention so you can safely release your drones. Shooting at any range will do.) _______________________________ I need new voices in my head, To speak my secret evils with. I need new lovers in my bed, To be my friends and special pets. |

The whole 21 day training for combat is stupid. I agree even miners should have some ability to fight but you dont need that much. I'm in a mining barge myself and all I need to defend is a few drones. All you should need is some bare minimum combat training to setup a frigate.

All you need is drone skills, which you'll want for when you get to a barge, anyway.
No other gun or missile combat skills necessary. _______________________________ I need new voices in my head, To speak my secret evils with. I need new lovers in my bed, To be my friends and special pets. |

Don't completely discount those combat skills though. Stick around in EVE long enough and you will NEED those skills, even as a humble miner. Since you're a Gallente, you'll more than likely want to crank out a few drone skills. (which will be an absolute MUST when flying a mining barge)
21 days seems like a bit of overkill for Level 1 missions. As far as I know, all the current new characters have a chance to complete most all Level 1 missions solo. Still, a few weapons/tanking skills can't hurt you.
Meh, if all else fails, bring a friend along for the killing. _______________________________

Follow Minerva's advice, it is a solid way to start.
Further keep track of the missions that cause you problems. As others have said, you can decline 1 mission every 4 hours. It can help if you have a few agents to work for in your area, so that you can switch agents if you are waiting for that 4 hour count down.

Not sure why anyone hasnt said it before, but if all you have to do is make it through to the end. ( Didn't say you need to stop and mine) Just fit out the ship with an appropriate sized afterburner, tech 1 shield/armor repairer as appropriate ( civi is a tad weak), and then whatever other defensive things you can find to equip (reduced dmg versus the pirate type, or shield/armor hp boosts).
Should be able to just cruise on past them since it's going to be what a few frigates for an early lv 1 mission.

I agree, but I'll point out that you can "store up" a few missions and decline them over time.
As an example: Agent A gives you a bad mission, you decline it immediately. Agent A gives you another bad mission - you leave it (don't accept, don't decline). Agent B gives you a bad mission - you leave it (don't accept, don't decline). Agent C gives you a bad mission - you leave this one (don't accept or decline). Agent D gives you a nice mission so you accept. Agent D is very nice and gives you a couple of good missions which you accept and complete. Four hours later you go back to Agent A and decline the second mission he tried to give you. Agents A or D can now be approached again for a new mission, you still need to go back after another 4 hours and 8 hours to decline the missions from B & C. (or you can go back next day or the day after).
Just keep an eye on the expiry dates - you don't want to let them expire as that will lose you standing.
I've never found any limit to how many unaccepted missions you can have, but there probably is one. For all intents and purposes, the limit is high enough to generally not concern us.
Cheers Falka

Good luck. If you need any more help you can chat me up in game. (If I don't respond it just means I'm AFK or sleeping... I tend to leave EVE running all the time.)
If you're serious about a mining career doing the Imicus and Drones is your best bet to stay on that path, since you'll want drones when you get into a barge anyway, without having to train any unnecessary combat skills that you wouldn't want until later or not at all.
(Edit: I think I have a CSPA charge of 100k ISK enabled. I'll reimburse you for that if it's a problem. I keep it on to keep people like ISK sellers from convoing me and other people I don't want to talk to.) _______________________________ I need new voices in my head, To speak my secret evils with.
