If you are under some misconception that "justified" hostility can be seen as "civilised discourse", you are mistaken. If you want civilised discourse, than conduct yourself appropriately. We have no control over the people and what they post in these forums...but we can let people know what we expect in terms of behavior. The reason I take aim at you (as you point out, and rightly so) is that while some people here have the occassional hostile post, your reputation is that you ARE hostile. Put another way....most people in the forum can be hostile, negative, alarmist, etc...but they do so inconsistently. Your posts are extremely consistent however and your tone, etc is largely unchanged regardless of the topic. This is seen negatively by many and is cause for much of the ruckus around here. I'm saying to you; try to be aware of what you're responding to and how you respond. It may "feel good" to get back at somebody else because they deserve it (and maybe they do) but it does NOTHING to help keep the discourse of this forum civil. Just because somebody else does something, doesn't mean that you should too. I'm actually mildly surprised at how idealistic that all sounded. Regardless of that I think I'm making a rather valuable point here and I'm hoping that you consider it. Please. And no, I'm not going to try and police everyone. I'm saying this to you now because this is a consistent/constant/recurring thing. Consulting, IPO Template, and Stock/Bond definitions.

I would suggest that you FEEL my posts are 'hostile' because you and many others have LONG since stopped actually reading them, and simply now react to them. This is a failing of yours, not mine. Life is difficult and I am not here to make sure everyone walks away from my posts 'feeling extra special'. That is not my role in this game, these forums or life in general. It's too bad as you said earlier. I have many vaulable insights which was washed away by the rantings and ravings of the abusive few. Personally I don't care so much as every now and then I DO engage with an individual on a issue and it is quite enjoyable. That is why I come to these forums. To encounter such individuals. The jaded in-crowd regulars are boring especially how they attack new posters and different points of view. I won't lose any sleep about not "meeting their posting standards". Now just scroll up and tick off the names of the usual suspects who salavate that the prospect of sticking the knife into my posts. You will quickly see whom I am talking about. Tis obviousl who the fanbois are and why they post. Surely my simple posts by comparison to the language and venom spewed out by this cadre of individuals is pale in comparison? I suggest you look elsewhere Hexxx because it doesn't bother me that these people don't like what I write, how I write or to whom I write. There are many things in life to worry about and obtaining these individuals 'approval' isn't one of them. But still, kudos to you for actually typing a civil expression of your thoughts. You are blaming OTHER people for the poor reactions you recieve. You say that you have valuable insights but you have to realize that the way you've been presenting them has hurt your ideas more than anything else. There are plenty of people around here who have great ideas and are able to communicate them in productive ways. Either you're writing to contribute to the community or you're writing for yourself...and I'm really not sure which one it is with you. As an example, and this still bothers me to this day, Ufl had some fantastic ideas...ideas that could have blossomed into something significant and productive. The problem has always been that he bites the hand that tries to feed him. Any help anyone has ever tried to give has been met with hostility and anger. I don't think it's personal, I just think he is incapable of believing he is wrong about anything, so any advice comes automatically from the mouths of the ignorant who are worthy only of scorn. It doesn't matter how nice you are. Kindness is met with just as much hostility and hate as rudeness. My advice is treated as well as yours, as well as Shar's, as well as Shadarle's, as well as DS's. Everyone gets the same poor treatment. When he can't think of something mean that seems to him to be witty in response to someone, he simply reports the post and puts whatever spin on it he wants. It's unfortunate, because I think he's a really bright guy who has a lot of good stuff to say, but his anger obscures it. I wish it were otherwise, but I think that may be a pipe dream.

It was quite an interesting read, actually, on that whole DPD "thing", and to be quite frank, the description fits rather nicely with your observed behaviour, so unless you come out and flat out deny you have it, with medical proof attached, I'd just keep assuming that you are indeed "cursed" with this "disease". Since Shar's condition is temporary (for all we know), yet still ungraceful, he might deserve a slap for that. You know, educational punishment, a warning, a temporary ban, whatever. AT WORST. However, if you are indeed "afflicted" by DPD, then punishing you with educational intent would have no actual effect whatsoever, since one of the criteria that define DPD is, and I quote : "incapacity to experience guilt and to profit from experience, particularly punishment". As such, the ONLY logical course of action would be to perma-ban you from the forums, since, well, notheing else would work. Right ? 1\|2\|3\|4\|5.

Follow that one simple step and any internet troll you ever encounter will eventually move on to attention-whoring another forum. While many people make the occaisional post un-worthy of reply there have only been 2 in MD who have never once made a constructive post. You'll find that I've never replied to either of them. Most people haven't, probably less than 10 people do, ever. But they do so over and over. If those few, and I think you know who you are as most are already in this thread before me, could exercise a little control over their compulsion to hit reply, the problem would disappear in short order. Like I keep telling my wife vis-a-vis our kids, positive reinfocement of negative behavious does not help.
