I am much hyped about the movie, but was expecting a huge letdown, as is usually the case when a movie is hyped up as much as this one was. But in all honestly, as high as my expectations, and anticipation of dissapointment was, i like it, it didnt let me down.
Granted its a slow start, got about 20 mins of watching ppl party b4 the good stuff happens, but it was totally a good flick.
Aside from what the self-absorbed, wanna-be movie ppl who are just bitter cuz they arent good enuf to break into the biz say, The camera is is NOT too shaky to watch (maybe in the first couple mins), the acting is NOT awful (its ok enuf), and you DO get to see the monster well and often enough. It aint gonna win no awards, but it does live up to most of the hype it has gotten.
PRE SPOLER ALERT: I wont post any details, unless some1 wants to know them, in which case ill tell ya, since i dont care if i spoil it for you or not. so if u dont wanna know, dont read anything past this if some1 asks
all in all, id say 4 outta 5 stars, keeping in mind what it is and expecting nothing more than that.

only in the sense that its shot completely on camcorder, but i saw BW in the theater too and almost tore my seat off and threw it at the screen when it was over, so no, not as bad as BW.

I highly doubt that it was all shot with camcorder
Surely it was just edited to look that way. -- Banned since 2005, back by popular demand! They said it wouldn't happen!! |

I liked the movie almost just because ratatat was featured in it.
I was floor-struck, I couldn't believe that the little indie band that played at my highschool 3 years agho was actually in a movie.

prolly tru enuf, but the same result. i actually liked the camcorder feel, sometimes when the monster was very close to them, it really added some suspense and feel to the experience.

The main problem with the movie is that it didn't satisfy the action blockbuster godzilla/king kong fans, and it didn't have anything substantial going on, so who did they make the movie for?
I wasn't really connected with any of the characters, so why should I really care about their tale?
If you didn't really pay close attention at the end during that rather useless ferris wheel scene, you wouldn't have noticed the object falling out of the sky. (I guess the assumption is that it's alien life).
I liked some parts of it, but I feel the things I addressed above were lacking.

i dunno, your never gonna satisfy everyone with anything. i consider myself an action blockbuster godzilla/king kong fan, and i was satisfied. it would not have made it any better for me if it ended the same old tired way, with the hero of the day flying down with a comanche helicopter strapped to his arse and blow the thing away with cruise missiles. it had plenty of action, death, destruction so on and so forth, i mean that thing didnt just attack new york, it tore that town a new one!
i didnt notice the thing falling from the sky during the ferris wheel scene, now i gotta go see it again, lol.

Yeah will be sweet, I'm still waiting for the 1st of February, when it comes out in Europe, don't really want to see a Cam of a cam as it were -- Banned since 2005, back by popular demand! They said it wouldn't happen!! |

Humans fight back?
What about that? Just 3 minutes aho on TV an advertisement for is one on and is said and I quote "Time for humans to fight back." I got the impression though, that humans were mostly running away from it/them.
The aim of politics is to keep the populace alarmed and clamorous to be saved by menacing it with imaginary hobgoblins. The urge to save humanity is a false front for the urge to rule it. |

Hard call for me.
Was it entertaining? Yep. And in some respect that is enough. That said a few let downs:
- Blair Witch Style: Sorry...just do not like it. I get what they were going for and can appreciate that but still annoying. It was not as nausea inducing as I feared (not at all really) but neither did it improve the film for me. I understand the "camera man" was filming for posterity but let's face it...in such a situation the camera would have been tossed 2 minutes after the **** hit the fan (would you really hang on to the camera/go back for it in the tunnel scene?).
- Less than 90 minutes long. There should be a law about this. Movies are way too expensive these days to get less than 90 minutes. Add in that nothing of note happens for the first 15 minutes and WTF? I have no problem with them establishing the characters in the beginning but face it, we are there for monster mayhem and 15+ minutes of introducing/establishing characters = ripoff with only 60(ish) minutes to go.
- I want to know the dealie on the monster. Sorry, but it is a movie. It is fine to leave some thing unexplained in a movie so you can argue with your mates over what happened but in this case there is not even a starting point. Alien? Mutant? Government experiment? Who knows?
- And why is it attacking? What does it want? Food? Mayhem? Women? We have no clue. It's a movie and I want some explanation...even a vague one. They could have too. The movie is a Department of Defense screening. They describe Central Park by a number rather than name as if this is a historical record and New York, perhaps the world, have moved to a cataclysm bigger than we know (this is not a spoiler...you get this in the first 2 seconds of the film and that is as much as anyone knows).
- What's with the little guys (I'll leave it at that for spoiler issues)? I never quite sorted what their purpose was.
Overall I found the movie lacking in many ways. Yes it kept my attention once it got going. But nothing especially memorable.

Just like BW, I think this is a thinking man's movie. Those who don't want to think won't enjoy it. Those who do will love it.
It's not about easily-answered questions. It's about what you imagine are the answers. You, the viewer, have to decide what's happening and why. It's not about telling the viewer why these events exist, but what one makes of them.
I loved it. But I also loved BW. It truly scared the **** out of me, and the people I watched it with.

Thinking man's movie? Huh?
It is one thing for a movie to give you enough to mull over.
This movie you can just make up any damn thing you like.
Aliens from outer space invading earth? Ok.
Government experiment gotten out of hand? Why not.
Mutant born of toxic dumping? Makes sense.
Ancient god of destruction risen from the depths to lay waste to mankind? Find me a bible.
Poor, misunderstood creature who just wants to be loved? Call Fay Wray.
Seriously...there is zero thinking to this. Make up anything you like. No one can gainsay you. Maybe it was a mutant born of toxic waste during a government experiment then flushed down a toilet and almost died till saved by aliens who nurtured it and returned it to earth where it was infused with the evil god of "Smash Everything in Sight" yet deep down it just wants a hug.
Tell me I'm wrong.

the only thing they have in common is the camcorder thing. i saw BW and i farkin hated it. but i liked this. Sure, as some ppl said above, theres some things that dnt make sense. I agree that i would be the first one to toss that camcorder away when the Sh*t went down, but then there wouldt be a movie, would there?
you gotta take it for what it is, and just enjoy the 90 mins of entertainment. Yeah, its not a full 2 hours, but for a running, jerky camcorder movie, that about my limit anyways. i thoughyt it was just long enuf.
And unlike the BW, this movie at least had a budget, so you can get some eye candy out of it, instead of watching a couple dous**bags running around in the forest for 2 hours.
it aint gonna change the world, but it was entertaining.
and yeah, the humans fight back, but they kinda get their arses handed to them.

It's not even 90 minutes. More like 75 minutes. And 15 of those minutes are at a party with no monster.
