I am very new to Eve (about 2 weeks) and I really like firing lots of rockets and I was thinking it would be best if I just create some of my own. What skills would I have to add to my character in order to build rockets? And should I make a grunt type character to do this or could I just put it on my main char?
Thanks |

Would you make another character for this or would it be fine just to put on the main character?

best to keep all skills to 1 character on each account. Spreading them to more than 1 char will probably be worst in the long run, as both chars will need to spend time training the same skills again (learning etc) ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.

Add skills to current character.
You don't need mass production. Just industry (maybe science, if you will be improving an original BP or wanting to copy it - which is a good idea, as you can take a copy with you wherever you go). You only need mass production to use more than one factory at time.

Production effiency would safe you some minerals, but it's pretty useless on small stuff like rockets, light missiles. (but go for it if you wanna build bigger stuff) --------------

Thanks for the input.
My main character is in Venilen right now. Can you by the industry skill anywhere and the blueprints? And do different rockets take different minerals?

At any school. Yes, throughout space (but not every station). Yes, different minerals.

Thanks! I will not be online tonight until around 10pm EST. I will send you a message then and we can meet up somewhere in the next few days.
To make the blueprints do you just need industry also or you need another skill? Or are blueprints just found?

Just convo me when in game and when I am on; you can just come to Nonni 5 Lai Dai to pick up when convenient.
To make copies, you do need skills; don't recall which one(s). Blueprint originals are on the market and I think rockets can't be too much to buy. You can bring up the market and see all the blueprints available for sale.
But since I have tons of these blueprints (originals) given to me by agents, I have no use for them; might as well give them to those who can use them.

I hate to rain on anyones parade... but TBH rockets suck They were "almost" made useful a patch or two ago... but ended up being left as is.

Rockets are fun to play with now and again because of the small size and little refine you actually get off them. Fear The Bunny

do rockets in rocket bays suck for a quick burst of dmg? (1sec launch rate I believe) I definately would see how they would suck in bigger launchers but a rocket launcher or the next one up seems like they would be somewhat effective.

Actually rockets do WORSE! DoT when put into larger launchers, they still do the same weak damage, but now have a slower rate of fire, thus lowering the DoT. IIRC the rate of fire for a rocket launcher (accounting to skills: Missile Ops lvl 5) is .75 seconds, however there seems to be a strange issue of the 3rd rocket either not launching (even though your icons says it has) or the 3rd rocket blowing itself up before it reaches the target.
So as far as how to spent your training time/ISK on skills, I would just get Standard Misiles up to lvl 4, train Heavy Missiles up to at least lvl 3 and Train Misile ops to lvl 5 so that you can then use Cruise missiles. Oh and at some point it would be a good idea to learn Defenders/FoF Missiles

ok that is good to know... I love missles and hate turrets :) So industry at level 3-4-5 will let me produce all these missles/rockets etc?

yes... provided you have a BP/BPC for whatever rocket/missile you want to make.

And production efficiency is important for cruise missiles.
Also if your only going to be shooting them at npc pirates you might want to think about missile production cost vs npc pirate value. Although if you value "shooting missile fun" over the production cost, then have fun
Generally the missiles I use vs NPCs are to help get some extra dmg above what my guns are giving. Also not good to fire missiles at a target and then have your guns blow it up before the missiles arrive.
Missiles to use vs type of NPC pirate (a general rule of thumb): NPCs that don't shoot missiles = rockets or lights NPCs using rockets = lights or heavies (or rockets, expect to get hit) NPCs using lights = lights or heavies NPCs using heavies = heavies (or torps/cruise expensive) NPCs using torps/cruise = defenders (and torps/cruise expensive)
If your getting hit by the npc missiles you need to get to a longer range, use defender missiles, or harden and boost your shields.

Back in the very early days; my ship (frigate) could hold 2 miners and a launcher I think. So I would put the 2 miners on to do their work, and then use the rockets in the launcher to kill npc's when they came to hassle the mining op.
Later as we moved to having 5-8 person mining ops, it wasn't necessary; but when you need some form of protection (but maintaining as many miners running constantly) the rockets would kill the little .5 npc's that visited.
Today, many months later, I don't know how effective they would be; but at one point, the rockets did a job that I had for them. As I would run low, the Indy would bring back more supply of rockets when coming to pick up another load of ore from the cans.

I dont think anything is quite as beautiful as two skilled kestrel pilots going at it in a rocket fight. Rockets are literally going everywhere. Its quite awsome to look at and even better to be a part of.

Yep - if you want a Cataclysm Cruise or Inferno Torpedo blueprint copy then drop me an eve-mail in-game. I have a few copies lying around so can let you have one.

Missiles tend to be expensive, but if your only fighting selectively, they're hard to beat for raw damage.

Get Production Efficiency lvl 4, industry lvl 4 and mass production level 2 or 3 so you can make cheaper missiles and different types of missiles ( ie damage types ) and If you like missiles then ONLY consider Kestrel, Caracal and Raven as your future ships. -----
