Hmm. Does that support DX10? moreso, can it run windows apps and games without annoying, buggy emulators?
If both are true, there's no reason to ever get Vista

I doubt it. There isnt much info on it which is why I am going to setup a rig for it. I would guess its fedora with a faceplate.
However, there was this thread on playstation games...

That is hilarious. Make it look like vista and then allow it to do things vista couldn't if it tried. LMAO.
They can get away with it because the name is NOT "vista" AND they are using no bits n'pieces of vista, nor are they selling it. (its free).
As for dx10 as was asked, the wine organization is currently working on a dx10 "wrapper" for XP, MAC AND linux which is scheduled to be done by June(ish)...so even for the XP folks, there won't be a need to move to the DRM FEST crapola that MS is foisting at the world.
And as many folks have pointed out, they ONLY use microsoft's operating systems at this point BECAUSE they have games. This is the ONLY weak link in linux's armor at this point, but its a biggie. (I use it, but I am not blind to the fact that native games are still 99.9% built for dx9.)

Yeah, I have no doubt if this picks up, people will be trying to make it work like Vista and run M$ stuff. If they are successful, It would be my exclusive machine then. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. I'll be trying this out as well, but as much as I would like to see this succeed I smell an incoming lawsuit-fest. Years ago Microsoft sued another user-friendly Linux distributor called "Lindows" over their trademark name, claiming it was too close to "Windows".
Eventually they settled with Microsoft paying Lindows $50mil for their trademark (they became "Linspire" instead), as the judge ruled that both Apple and Xerox had been using the "window" metaphor for years prior to MS... but looking at those screenshots, it's pretty clear Vixta borrows something more than the name from Vista.

Well tbh, they haven't got a leg to stand on then. Because all of the features that Micro**** came up with for Vista was done YEARS before in the linux desktop and not to mention windows mods like Litestep etc. On-desktop calenders and 3D windows aren't something M$ came up with by themselves
Micro**** couldn't come up with something original even if Linus held them by the hand.
ps, for the record, I use Windows, and only reason is the games. If I had not played games I could do much better with linux and all the software they got for day to day tasks or if for media creation I would go with a Mac.

Agreed... but I was referring to the look-and-feel of Vixta. I've only seen a Vista desktop once or twice, but if I remember right Vixta has practically cloned its visual design.

And Vista interface is a polished XP, XP is a polished 98, 98 is a polished 95, 95 is a polished 3.11 etc etc all the way back to the Apple interface stolen by M$, and the apple interface was on it's part more or less stolen from Xerox... nothing new there... ---

I'm just getting used to Ubuntu, it will be a pain in the ass for me to install a 3rd operating system on my machine.
Looks spiffy though.

Edited by: Avery Fatwallet on 22/01/2008 22:05:15 i couldnt care less if a desktop looks like vista :/ (edit; my xp looks like nt, and if i had vista id try to see if it can look like nt too. i was satisfied with the looks and feels of it, i dont need to change it. more desktops.. well maybe... but i think i dont need it)
but i choose my OS after the ability to play games. since the "serious" applications i have to use i can get for any other major OS too.
i wouldnt be too amazed if the major game publishers have some kind of ... shady deal with MS not to release the big titles for open source OS in the near future..
am i being paranoid?
