Firsly I tried to search for this but had no luck.
I am aware its possible to have 2 clients running (on same machine) with alternate content, i.e. one running premium and the other running classic.
Unfortunately, even when I run two clients from two different hard drives, the second instance still uses the config of the first. I cant seem to find this shared config file.
Basically I can run two accounts on classic without a problem, but running two premiums grinds the game to a hault. I spoke to someone recently who said they run one classic and one premium so it CAN be done.
The question is....
HOW?

I would guess that you just copy the Classic Client Folder to a different directory and then only upgrade one.

By default, the client stores settings data in a folder somewhere in your Documents & Settings. Even if you have multiple clients they'll still take data from the same location. Using /end /LUA:OFF on your shortcut forces each client to store that data on the client folder.

For the above you don't need to make a shortcut to your Eve folder, just the executables for each install. Move the shortcuts to your desktop or wherever you'd normally start Eve, right click on them and select properties.
In the "Target" text field where you see the path to the eve.exe add the tags above e.g.C:\games\eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF.
In some cases where the path name has spaces in it (e.g. the eve folder is in Program Files folder) the path will be in quotes. Just add the tags outside the quotes e.g. "C:\Program Files\Eve" /end /LUA:OFF.

If you load two clients both with premium content and then change the settings on one back to standard and click apply it will restart that client without restarting the other one and you will be running one of each.
I didnt do this on purpose, it is just something i noticed when i was switching off premium content to get more speed so i cant speak to its stability.
Also i would assume that the next time you start up the clients you will have to do it the opposite way around, as once the premium client is closed the next time it is loaded it will be standard.

Hmm... when did this KB article come into being? No date on it. Checked the Internet Archive for it and I suspect this article was updated in the last 6 months since the current text isn't archived in there.
If multiple clients aren't "officially" supported then why are there "official" KB articles with details on how to do it listed? And official dev blogs that talk about it without mentioning an unsupported status. Look here where Q/A says:
"Q. Can I run multiple clients? A. Yes. Here are the links to the relevant Knowledge Base articles that tell you how to do it. "
None of the KB articles bother to say that things aren't supported or link to article 65.
Or is it that only Windows users aren't supported and Linux/Mac users are?
Ho hum... not that I expect much in the way of support anyway - it's not like we can just pick up the phone and say "help" and the petition system isn't really suitable for diagnosing computer problems so it's mostly community based support.

Thank you to everyone who gave me the solution. It works.
Unfortunately however, I found that running 1 classic and 1 premium is still unplayabe for me at the moment with my current spec. Since I really like the premium, I'll keep the two setups and play premium when I solo and classic x2 when I need to use my alt until I upgrade my spec.
Thanks again
Lord.

Yes I discovered this, but each time you disable or enable peremium you must reboot the client. Though this solution works, it's more inconvenient than having two shortcuts on your desk, but thanks for providing the info.

Wild Rho's way is the easiest to get 2 clients running with different settings. With that method you have two shortcuts, one standard one and one with "C:\Program Files\CCP\Eve\eve.exe" /end /LUA:OFF For three clients you will have to make an additional copy of your install folder and a short cut for that third client with "C:\Program Files\CCP\Eve2\eve.exe" /end /LUA:OFF and so on.

Sometimes I wonder why you reply, I know your trying to help but "Running multiple clients is not officially supported by CCP. Customer Support cannot assist you if you're having trouble with it."
isn't very helpful especially since Power of Two promotes two accounts.

Add this to your eve short cut on the desktop
Quote:
Target: "D:\Program Files\CCP\EVE_1\eve.exe" /end /LUA:OFF
I've found having a seperate install for each "character client" helps. I've for 3 classic installs and one premium and I have 3 chars. I can run 1 Premium and 2 classic clients together no problems.
Also, make sure the cache usage in the gfx setting isn't max when using more than one client.

I made a solution for a friend that copied a new configuration file before starting the client. Made one start in classic and one i premium, works pretty well!
The config files are placed in: C:\Documents and Settings\beansman\[Language specific folder]\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings If i remember right i replaced all files not containing a number ;)
So: Start eve, setup client1, close eve, copy files to another folder Start eve again, setup client2, close eve, copy files to another folder
When you want to start eve, copy files back. Simple as that!

I do it a slightly different way .
I have 1 Client installed [well 3 actually one for TQ one for Sisi and a spare ] but that doesn't matter
what I do is have a bunch of directories setup on d:\eve i.e. d:\Eve\TQ\RaTTuS d:\eve\TQ\Alt-1 d:\eve\TQ\Alt-2 d:\eve\TQ\HighRez d:\eve\TQ\Market d:\eve\TQ\Mental
and in them directories Local Settings\Application Data\ccp\ My Documents\Eve\
then I have a bunch of batch files [.bat] like Rattus.bat Set home=d:\Eve\TQ\RaTTuS Set USERPROFILE=%home% Set HOMEDRIVE=%home:~0,2% Set HOMEPATH="%home:~2%" Start "EvE" "c:\Eve\Current\Eve.exe"
and use those to launch eve- and I can get things like this as a setup all for itself.. you can setup clean no transparent classic versions or polshed Expanded ones \ full screen or windowed etc.. and all from one installed client - and you can clear the cache individually for eah one if needs be.
