Edited by: Xr0ssfire on 22/01/2008 14:57:13 I picked up EvE over a month ago, and i have to say i was hooked, the complexity and depth of the game was somethin i hadn't seen in other MMO's. But the real icing on the cake was all the alliances/politics that go with it.
I read the CAOD forums pretty much daily, and i love reading the posts/wars/confrontations/flaming that goes on back and forth.
My question is this, for a noob such as myself, who has limited pvp experience; when (SP wise) is the best time to get into 0.0 and is there an Alliance or Organization of alliances that helps "introduce" 0.0 mechanics/life to newer players?

slanderous lies... my ibis would have been destroyed by a gust of rash insults let alone actual fire. But seriously, i've heard some people say 3mill SP? Does that sound accurate?

It all depends on your play style. If you want to pvp 3-5 mil sp is better, though if trained right you can pvp in a t1 frig in a few hours of training. The biggest question comes down to do you want to be in 0.0 and potentially pvp a lot. Some people love it and some hate it.
If you want to come to 0.0 then go to the recruiting channel and put in your info and what you want and i'm sure someone will take you even with low sp, though some corps like mine have restrictions on the minimum amount of sp you can have and join. |

Just use a pair of +3 Implants which isn't much money. Otherwise a good cheap PvP ship is a long range dessie or tackler rifter. You won't be able to solo in those ships out in 0.0 so find a corp and convince them your going to help the "cause". That said don't over-look low sec for your first pvp xp/fun. Don't blame me, blame the main I'm supporting. |

If you are able to join Goonfleet, you can head out to 0.0 anytime and be part of some politics.
Most other corps and alliances look for (and often require) anywhere from 6-15 million SP, which translates to anywhere from five months to slightly more than a year of careful skill training. That's assuming you have implants and train learning skills and don't miss too much skill training, of course. ________________

The sp limit would be something pretty much dictated by whoever you try joining - a nublet meatsheild in a frig tackler is always welcome, so it'll be down to whether you look like a spy or not.
Which you do.
Following some egotists orders about how and when and what you can do, spending hours wasted on lagged-out fleet fights and mind-numbing pos-deconstructions; it'll soon wear you down, but you should at least try it.
If only you didn't look like a spy.

Edited by: Xr0ssfire on 22/01/2008 15:23:33 Well in terms of what i'd like to do, i have 2 accounts, 1 is a miner who's heading towards a hulk and this character is heading towards stealth bombers and should be ready to go in about 2 weeks. I was hoping to get some pvp action, but not to the point that i can't explore the other area's of 0.0 eg: mining/ratting etc.
Does anyone know of any area's in 0.0 that has is somewhat quiet; that allows someone to explore these different area's? Or does it come down to what corp/alliance you're in?
*edit* Well see that's the thing, while those huge fleet battles sound awesome, that's not something i'd personally get into, i wouldn't mind "small" or roaming gang/fleet battles, but the huge siege type battles is something i don't think i'd enjoy too much.
As for looking like a spy, how does one not look like a spy? Just more SP/time under my belt?

Get into 0.0 as soon as possible, it'll stop you picking up bad habits from Empire dwellers.
I personally like the goon story of the newbie in their second week warp scrambling an enemy dreadnought.

Sinder is right. Actually, joining a big 0.0 alliance is a great way to get into fleets, npc-ing and politics. Too bad for Xr0ssfire there are so few alternatives to goonfleet.

CVA - an alliance that occupies the Providence region - allows neutral pilots into their territory and are actually quite nice.

Just build a relationship with the people whose space you'd like to use. Also, doing things to demonstrate you actually play the game on that character (SP, agent standings, etc.) helps. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

This,
SP doesn't matter much, get in a rifter with tackling gear and join some pvp alliance that helps out new players.
Your SP will grow wherever you are, but your knowledge of pvp won't.

You should get involved now, it's a blast. A month is long enough. Pick a corp, or possibly get to know someone and get introduced that way. Going to 0.0 for the first time, was for me, an experience i will probably never forget, was about 3 years ago and I took a moa with a mwd on up to deklein, ran thru 3 PA camps and got chased about 10 jumps, was a nervous wreck when I got to 2r and had to go outside for a smoke. Was already pleased with eve but that made sure i was addicted. [/url] |

PvP wise there is no lower limit of SP for 0.0. Being able to support yourself is another matter, but if you are using t1 ships it shouldn't cost much. Most corps have a limit varying from 5 mil (they just want to make sure you have been playing long enough that they don't have to nursemaid you) to 20 mil (probably a pvp corp looking for specialized and experienced players). In both cases they will usually make exceptions for someone with lower sp but the right attitude comes along. If you can show that a) you have good attitude, and b) you know how to look after yourself, most corps will give u a try, once they are convinced you aren't a spy ofc.

If you have a hard time getting into an alliance you like you could always explore pvp corporations who are based in empire or lower security systems like EVE University. It¦s very rare corporations and alliances do not see the value in scramblers or frigate pvpers who just started playing, and like said here before half of pvping is the mentality and the will to pew pew.

if you dont have a corp that gives you the ships for free, then go there when:
1. you have a way to make money to cover you losses (even if only t1 frigs), could be -> a ship for ratting in 0.0 -> a 2. charakter in empire that makes money there (or jumpclones to do the job with your main) -> a mining ship -> ect.
2. you can fly at least a t1 frig and fit mwd+scrambler on it.
if you have these go and have fun.

lol that's the exact kind of feeling i'm looking to getting into, that initial adrenaline rush when everything kicks off, and either
a.) the euphoria/delight of winning a fight or b.) or the stomach-sinking feeling of losing
But that definitely sounds like you had a blast!

Yeah i do have a mining alt who's not too far from a Hulk, so i will be using him to make ISK or provide mins. I think by the overall consensus i'm getting is, it's worth getting into 0.0 if i can provide ISK to pay for lost ships and have the mentality to deal/enjoy the outlaw space. So i think i'll jump out there tonight :D
