I noticed when I was checking out bigger ships (that I can only dream about) that they all seem to only have 8 high slots. I thought Battleships would have more high slots. Doesnt that make them the same to the smaller ones?
I also noticed that in the items section that the items do not auto stack if they are the same. Is there a way that I can make them do this?

What ships? And what smaller ship has eight high slots? I assume your experience with smaller ships is Destroyers, then.
Few big differences...
1) Slots - Generally battleships have more high, med, and low slots than their smaller counterparts. (GENERALLY - some exceptions apply. Destroyers do have as many/more slots as Battleships, but they have very few meds/lows)
2) Damage - You have a LOT more powergrid/cpu on the bigger ships. You can fit bigger and more damaging guns. Better range as well with the long range guns as well, usually.
3) Tank - See above. Bigger, better tanks on the battleships usually.
However, this doesn't mean you have to go to battleships. Lots of people spec into frig or cruiser sized ships and are happy. Every ship type pretty much has a role in EVE.

Drake has 8 high slots (7 launcher 1 utility).
A agree with everything else though.

That's why I said generally. Some cruiser classed ships also have more meds or lows than some BS's.
