lately ppl have been bumping miners in order to send them out of the range of thier mining laser, thus they cannot mine, since mining lasers take so long, its easy to keep a miner from mining, especially when you can send them flying at 800 mps and the range of a laser is only 15 km At this point there is no way a miner in safe space can retaliate.
this needs to be changed somehow,
if a griefer(someone who harms another for no gain to himself)can cause harm with no way to retailate or report(gm Nova told me this is not harassment or an exploit)then it ruins a pvp game,
every action that causes harm to another player needs to be either retailiatable or reportable, or it will die out in this cutthrought world where mmorpg's are a dime a dozen, and so are griefers.
the main reason that that other nameless game has 9 million players is that they have elimated uncontrolled griefing, not that i think eve should emulate it ,nor do i want to play it, but the proof is in the pudding as they say....

Well, what do you think... You have a barge at the size of a panamax oil ship. The other one has a shuttle at the size of a mini cooper. Now you fly with full speed in that shuttle and bump into that barge. Somehow physics don't apply here, and the barge moves away.
=> CCP needs to change the physics so that ship mass and speed will be kept in mind when calculating how they bump away from the impact spot... --- This is your Captain speaking. Thank you for flying with our spaceline. Please remain seated until the ship has completely burned out. Thank you. |

Elastic collisions would be handy here. I dont see bumping as an integral part of the game. It is a neat strategy yes, but definately something we could do without.

I've never played that other game, but as far as I know, their way of 'solving' uncontrolled griefing, was to nerf PvP and have death not actually mean anything.
If you have a problem with them bumping you constantly - petition them, because afaik, bumping for no reason other than to annoy someone, is a breach of the rules, and will usually result in a warning.
Also, have you ever considered having a friend in a shuttle sit next to you and get in the way when the guy tries to bump you - the shuttle will get bumped, and the griefer will slow right down. - Think outside the box in future before whining on the forums. ======

500 m/s * 3,6 = 1800 km/h

Bumping is apart of the game. These are the people you have to deal with when you try to mine alone, remember you can also turn off your lasers before falling out of range and your cargo will fill with the percent of the cycle you finished. Just mine close enough to the rock to give yourself some reaction time.

Edited by: Westly Synpa on 26/01/2008 01:22:49 its way funnier when you do it with a nanoed out battleship you can send them flying some 30-40 odd km away.
steal some ore , them drop a can, move the rest into your can and then pop them if they try to get it out :)

It doesnt always happen to macros. but the fact is that CCP doesnt consider it greafing. in fact the reply i got from a GM was ship bumping isnt consideres hurrasment. I myself an running a 3rd account and am going to have a ship cloked to fix that same issue. they hit me I'll have a ship that is fastenough to knock them into anouther belt. they steal from me I will uncloke and make them buy anouther ship. all withing the mechanics of the game of course.

Let's say the reason this is possible is because ships don't have their stabilization thrusters on, so yes even a shuttle should be able to bump a battleship, but why not just add the stabilization thrusters feature to every ship? You click on this extra free midslot and unremovable module and you cannot be bumped at the cost of some penalty, maybe something different for every ship is the only way to go about this too.

So now to mine you need 3 persons?
1 miner, 1 hauler, 1 anti bumping?
Think inside of the box a bit: if mining require 3 accounts (friend or alts is indifferent) what should the mineral cost?

Ooh, eve does take size into account when doing bump calculations.
Hit a barge with a shuttle it won't go very far at all. 1.6 MT at 500m/s just won't send you very far. Repeated bumps will send it a good distance, but with no MWD, you just can't bump very effectively. Hit it with a nano-HAC, nano-BC going 4-5km/s, it'll go flying. Hit it with a pimped out HG Snake/Officer MWD/T2 Polycarbon Machariel going 10-12km/s, it'll be in the next belt over before it comes to a stop.
I am not fond of bumping barges, it's a bit of a jerk move, but it is technically within the game mechanics. Now, if he does this for week, follows you 8 systems over and camps the station you're in, it's harassment. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. How about an anchorig mode/module for the barge/exhumers (like the industrial one of the rorq)? Turn the module on and anchore yourself to the position you are at, no more bumping and maybe some extra bonuses for giving up the mobility. Possible bonuses: - extra range for strip/ice miner (you cant move towards the next roid after all without unanchoring) - extra efficienty for strip/ice miners (a 5% bonus per lvl of that module skill wouldnt hurt) - bonus to resists (especially usefull for the hulk)

I was about to suggest the same thing and then thought of all the mining barges 'anchored' outside Jita 4-4 blocking the exit and thought better of it.
I read the post from the GM in the other thread and realy couldn't understand his interpretation of the term griefing in their rules.
From the CCP Grief Play page.(http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=336)
Quote: A grief player, or "griefer," is a player who devotes much of his time to making othersÆ lives miserable, in a large part deriving his enjoyment of the game from these activities while he does not profit from it in any way. Grief tactics are the mechanics a griefer will utilize to antagonize other players. This should not be confused with standard conflict that might arise between two players. At our discretion, players who are found to be consistently maliciously interfering with the game experience for others may receive a warning, temporary suspension or permanent banning of his account.
Originally by: CCP Arkanon I frown on employees being power players to the extent that their gameplay results in any sort of domination over others. I donÆt believe CCP employees should run the EVE universe. |

this doesnt need changing for the simple fact that there are to many damn macro miners in the game.
from a carebear point of view it can be anoying if a greifer does do that to you if your just sitting there mining away but why are you sitting still if his doing it?
you should orbit the astroid you are mining that way it will be more harder for them to bump you. then when a hauler warps in to pick up your ore from your corp / gang just hold position and drop the ore when he / she is near you and cycle that route again ---------------------------- BOB 4 LIFE NOT JUST 4 A DAY ----------------------------

A very simple way to prevent that would be by disabling the anchoring modus within 50km or more from gates and stations.

ITT, all miners suck and by turning on their lasers, they enter a binding and legal agreement that anyone and anything may make their lives miserable. __________________________________

I have a suggestion: What if we simply shut off the server? No more macros! Obviously you don't care if regular players are annoyed or not, as long as macros are (probably not) hurt, so shutting down the game would solve that problem while not bothering you, right? |

Besides, repeated bumping of normal players is regarded as griefing. You are supposed to be able to report/petition this. ---

when i was a carebear we use to do this to force people out of the area without declaring war. Its a carebear fight either war dec them ( or hire a merc to do so ) or move out of the area. this is a pvp game there are all kinds of ways to control space without resorting to pew pew. its just not as fun :)

Best way to fix is by releasing a siege module for miners. You have to activate this module to use strip miners. :D

And just how would AFK matter here? If you are bumped out of range it's not much that miner can do. Especially if bumped by larger ship. Or is it yet another part where PvP crowd maintains that they are only ones that matter and everybopdy else is just a bunch of lamers and also ships grow on trees...

Well for all the greafers that have been posting here STFU. A hulk is only going at 77km at max speed. You are not orbiting anything and you are not going to orbit a roid inside a belt, the ship is just too big. You all are just upset because some of the miners are starting to speak out against you so again STFU.
Some of you think every miner just sits there afk, STFU you obviously donÆt got the brains god gave a mule. If it is so easy and you rake in so much cash why donÆt you do it? Because youÆre too lazy that is why, you would rather go around causing problems for others to make up for your short comings in your pathetic real life. Some of you forget that if it wasnÆt for the miners then no ore would get mined, and no ships would get built so then where would you be? Again no brains, so unless you actually have a realistic comment or a suggestion to make the issue more beneficial for everyone, NOT JUST GREAFERS AND ORE THIEVES! Then STFU you crybaby bunch of losers.
