The small blaster specialisation skill says this:
Specialist training in the operation of advanced small blasters. 2% bonus per skill level to the damage of small turrets requiring Small Blaster Specialization.
So, Small Blaster II will get the bonus, this makes sense.
The medium spec skill says this:
Specialist training in the operation of advanced medium blasters. 2% bonus per skill level to the damage of medium turrets requiring Medium Blaster Specialization.
What about Large Blaster II? Two of its skill requirements is Small Blaster specialisation 4 and Medium Blaster Specialisation 4. Does this mean that large blasters get the 2% bonus per level, from Small and Medium Spec trained up?
Obviously you don't notice this as they're pre-reqs for the large blaster - but if I trained, say, small blaster spec to 5 (rank3) rather than large blaster spec to 5 (rank 8) - would I get a 2% increase in the damage from my large blasters?
I suspect the answer is no, but it can't hurt to ask :) I R BE KING (and queen) OF CHEESE! |

You are correct in your assumption that you are wrong. Small Blaster Spec affects ONLY small blasters. Medium blaster spec affects ONLY medium blasters, and Large Blaster Spec affects ONLY large blasters. There is no "bleed-over".
So Medium Blaster Spec IV will not allow you to use T2 Large Blasters, and neither will any Large Blasters get bonus from your skill.

They should change the wording - can you see how the question formed in my head. I R BE KING (and queen) OF CHEESE! |

Yes, if you look at it like that I can understand your confusion and question. But, as stated, the lower tier blaster spec does NOT affect higher tier blaster damage.

Trust me, you're not the first to have misread a description and gone "WTF?" when it doesn't work the way you think ;)
But it does indeed say "Medium Turrets requiring..." on the Med spec.

Large Blaster II's do not actually require the Small Blaster Specialist skill.
Large Blaster II's require Large Hybrid Turret IV, Gunnery V, and Large Blaster Specialization I, and nothing else.
Everything else listed as a requirement is actually just a requirement for the requirements. If you could get Large Blaster Specialization I without getting Small Blaster Specialization IV, you could still use Large Blaster II's
Because Large Blaster II's do not directly require the lower sized spec's they are not affected by those skills.
A more practical example of this would be with ships, as there are many T2 ship skills that have Level 5 requirements that are not required by the ship itself.
For example, if you lost Battlecruisers V due to forgetting to upgrade your clone, you could still fly a Commandship because they require Command Ships I not Battlecruisers V. However, you would not be able to continue training the skill Command Ships until after you finished retraining Battlecruisers V.

So to someone who actually reads the description while not knowing the game much it's very well possible to assume that the high skill indeed does influence the lower one.
