For a while now the scale of the stations seem to be way off... when you are inside the hanger it appears to be a lot bigger than what is shown outside. To get any sort of balance the stations really need to be twice as large... maybe even three times larger than they are now. Either that or make the ships smaller lol
Anyone else think this? -------------------------------------------

The first time I undocked in my Apoc I noticed I was nearly 20-25% as long as the station I'd just left. How the hell do they fit anything else in there when I'm docked?! _____ CLS Civil Affairs Bureau

Edited by: Telos Sascheros on 25/03/2004 11:13:20 When I first heard of Eve I always imagined that stations would be giganctic with multiple hangar doors and ships coming and going. Several battleships would (really) fit inside one hangar. Now they're more like small garages :/
And on an off-topic note, I want more traffic around stations! NPC ships of every class docking and undocking, patrolling ships...etc. The stations look...lifeless. ----------------------------------------------- Stand tall and shake the Heavens. |

Well, now I agree with you in principle, but for frigates, the size difference seems perfectly understandable. Perhaps, then, a large module would need added to allow cruisers to dock and an even larger one for battleships.
This may not have been brought up, but have you actually tried zooming out? Next time you're near a station, zoom out quite far and see the size of your ship in comparison to the size of the station. There's a point, when zooming out, where the station seems to be getting smaller as well as your ship. Just before that point, the scale should be more or less 1:1, taking perspective into account.
Or am I crazy?

Nyphur is right...it's perspective, mostly. The camera is a lot closer to your ship than it is to the station.
On the other hand, this perspective seems to get a bit skewed when you are really close to the station...that's the only time I really feel the stations seem too small. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

How do you think you can fit 3900m3 of cargo into container which is only 3000m3 big outside?

Edited by: Gun Kata on 25/03/2004 12:51:34 I read somewhere a long time ago about something on the lines of 'planck' theories (i could be wrong). Basically things are bigger on the inside than the outside. I think there is a story or article somewhere.
edit: if they keep the stations the same size docking/undocking a Titan will look a bit odd.

There's one type of station.. that weird-looking Caldari station that's on the game box.. that's just ultra rediculous.
It's only about twice the size of the Megathron. When undocking, the Megathron's body is larger than the docking bay of the station, and there's absolutely no where to put a Megathron (or any other BS) inside that thing.
I guess, upon docking, all ships are really transported (via jumpgate technology) to magic infinite space-station land!

The stations are like the Tardis in Doctor Who..They create a subspace distortion field and there for distorting the space time continuam making things seem smaller than they really are. Either that or its something to do with space pixies and fairys

Well, I think we can agree that it would be kinda cool if stations were HUUUUUGE.
Ever seen stations in for instance Star Trek Bridge Commander? They are like 100+ times as big as the big fleet starships you fly around in. Now THAT looks cool.

When I undock with my mammoth (which is long than most battleships, actually) at the gallente "top hat" stations, it sticks out both sides.

Many sizes are all screwed up in EVE. The exits to minmatar stations are too small for even a cruiser to exit without poking out the sides.
If you set your scanner to show ship sizes, the values given do not correlate to what you actually see on-screen.
And compare the size difference between a probe frigate and a battleship, then compare the cargo space.
So what? It's still a great game.

Yeah the Minmatar station is what caused me to post this thread in the first place... my Tristan even doesnt fit the exit tunnel and it ruins the immersion and looks silly. -------------------------------------------

As I recall, back in beta Battleships were never supposed to dock at all. Furthermore they were supposed to come with 'Jumpdrives' (which still have not made it into the game) and they were supposed to be able to have a few frigates docked inside of them. Obviously things changed and no one could be arsed to fix it properly when they decided that BS's docking should be allowed, thus the stations that can't actually fit a BS in their docking bays...
Just another in a long list of things that should be fixed before cap relays

They need to fix the Scorpion's size first, then they can make the stations moon size. I agree with everyone here though, my apoc takes up about 1/4th of any station in this game. Accept that giant caldari one in Jita. ------------------

Yes, lets get the sizes right shall we...
It adds a lot to the game (And I mean REALLY A LOT) when things fit together.
Btw, the idea of some ships simply not being able to dock, I love that. Thats how it should be. ------------- Most tired of thing atm: - Mods on the forum saying: "Please use the bug report page to submit bugs, the forum is not the place to post them." and then closing a topic. |
