These are, as I understand it, leftovers from mining, used because of the ability to anchor them in place and use password protection. Thus foiling would-be thieves. And still there because they last forever or close to it (which seems a bit daft, but that's a story for another time I guess).
But ever so often, amidst the plethora of yellow dots, there'll be one or a few white ones. Presumeably it means they are mine or free for all, which they aren't. Testing, trying to open one, they are as much password protected as the yellow I tested (just out of curiosity ). They got the blinky red lights too, which I understand mean they are firmly anchored in place and can't be scooped up (as opposed to green lights?).
So, why the difference in colour? I can't spot a difference in any other way. A mere graphical glitch?

I believe this means that the person who left it behind is either in your corp or your alliance.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 25/01/2008 20:58:01 White container icons can be either standard cargo containers, freight containers, or audit log containers. If they're anchored in belts they'll be the audit log type. I've removed all can types except cargo and freight from my overview, since those are the only kinds I'd be able to open and potentially loot from.
edit: I believe if an anchored container belongs to your corp, the can will display the "anchored" arrow over its icon.

Yep, there we have it, just checked (I'm still in the noob NPC-corp, so that's why I see quite a few of these). Fairly obvious, in hindsigth Thanks.
