OK Question time, and please if you're not a pirate realize your opinion is not being requested here.
I play this game for the PVP aspect. I eventually ended up in an alliance as it was an easy way to get some PVP into my day. Lately 0.0 space in and around the region I call home has all but dried up leaving me with less and less oportunities to get any PVP in.
As a pirate do you find yourself geting into PVP multiple times per play session?
At present I am lucky if I can get 2 to 3 fights in per 4 hour play session. Insta jumps, NAPs, safe spots, etc. do a pretty effective job at making sure that those who really don't want to fight can avoid it. Being a pirate would at least remove the burden of NAPs from limiting my target selection.
I am not a camper, I am a roamer traveling at times 40+ jumps to check out a blip. Not sure if that would be a pro or a con as a pirate.
Ultimately before I change my style of play I'd like to get more insight into "How things are for the other side" of the PVP scene.
Yes this is an alt, rather not bruise any corp mate feelings by having them wonder why I am thinking of striking out on my own. Thanks for your insight into life on the dark side.

I have never been in a large alliance as a PvP player, but I can tell you that by not having NAPs and the like, pretty much everyone is a target to a pirate. So yes, the potential for combat is much greater.
We mostly camp 0.0 space gates, or engage some of our enemies we are at war with in empire space. On most nights, if we camp long enough and kill enough they send a force against us. Camping overall is as boring as mining, but it forces them to send someone in to get rid of you sometimes..hence more PvP.
I could see the problem with being a PvP player in an alliance, cause like u said once the combat is gone..ur bored. As a pirate there are always more targets. Plus there are so many blob/lag wars in 0.0 space. We engage in small-medium size fleets where lag is not an issue and different and real tactics come into play. It's not a slugfest between all damage dealers. That's how I see it, but as I said I've never participated in blob wars or alliance warfare. ------------------------------------------------

yar, what toaster said. Mimiru > It'd be a tie, the monkies nerfed pooflinger wouldnt have enough tracking to hit the parrot orbiting him, but the parrot's beak is so small it couldnt break the monkey's fur tanking. |

NAPs surely do cut down on the number of targets you have. however, unless ur if/xetic ur not napped with everyone, so get off ur lazy ass and make some jumps to go fight some people.

To answer your question: At one time piracy was really fun for me, I had enough of it everytime I log on. Things changed, during the last few weeks I found I could hardly get into any good fights due to several reasons. The one bothers me the most is teamwork.
I'm sure if you are in an organized group, you will have alot more actions and decent gaming experience. I'm giving it a try right now. So good luck to both of us and whoever wants to have pvp fun in eve :)

And to AwiL, I am not afraid to travel for PVP hence my statement:

Just seems lately I am doing more traveling than PVP, but I hear what you are saying. Perhaps the answer will be to spend one session travelling to a likely hunting area and then the next 3+ sessions hunting where I traveled to.
Ultimately I am just trying to get more information so that whatever I decide to do I make the most informed descision possible.

I can say, that I am still relatively new to the pirating/PVP aspect of the game.
Mostly I have been nabbing ore, and this has ticked a few people off, who have shot at me . Since i am sticking to empire for now, most of the time, I can shoot back when attacked. This is fun!
I do not see a lack of PVP action, if you work for it, even just a little.
Especially up past Orvolle. That area seems to be a hotbed of activity, and you should have ample targets to keep you going.
The few trips up there I have taken to PVP, has seen fights every time.
I am not a member of any alliance, and do not have NAP with anyone, I shoot what i want, and take what i want, when I want to.

Get an elite friggie pilot to hunt with you. People will have trouble running away when they're warp scrambled within 2 seconds of you appearing in the belt. --------------

I'm not a pirate. In fact, I don't even like pirates, but i felt like commenting anyway.
A pirate like you would be good. Most pirates are pretty dull and boring (like stated above) because they just sit on their bums and wait for ships to come to them. How dull is that!? But if you play an active role and actually rome the systems and investigate the belts, you'ld be a pretty fun pirate to run across. I just wish more pirates would get off their battleship butts and actually hunt their victims.
