I know what they are, I know where they are. I know how to raise my faction standings.
But seriously... 9.5 and 9.9?!
Is there anybody out there that has actually managed to reach that level of standings? I'de love to hear from you and get an idea of how long it took you. (Proof of standings would be great to know you're speaking from experience, trolls need not reply.) I've been steamrolling some COSMOS, done 90% of the datacenter missions and I've just managed to claw my way up to 8.5. Having standings that high is great, I have access to every single agent in the Caldari faction (excepting lvl 4 research which require corp standing in addition to faction) and jumpclones are easy to make. I'de just like to get a bit more benefit out of my standings. Is this a realistic goal? |

Well, not too many players have completed the Faction ship offer agents so you could look at them as being the 'End Game' to running missions for Event Agents. |

The reward for 9.9 should be your account being unsubscribed and doctors sent to your place of living to take you to the mental ward.
Seriously, the amount of grinding that would take is beyond ridiculous and the reward? A 2-run navy issue battleship.
In the time you spend grinding to 9.9 raw standing, you would accumulate enough LP and isk to buy a lot more than 2 navy issue battleships quite easily.
I suggest you find something more exciting to do if you really want to continue with missions: low sec missions, level 5 missions, pirate missions in 0.0, navy epic arcs, pirate epic arcs, 0.0 COSMOS missions. |

I did it on my alt with Amarr in between my 0.0 stints.
It's not quick, especially at the end stage where the standing seems to slow to a crawl.
If you are a casual player, it'll take a few years of mission running to get enough stading for the faction BS if you are just running combat missions.
If you are "super keen" then find some lvl4 distribution agents that are in the same system. If you know what you are doing you can burn through the distribution missions rather quickly and generage more storyline missions. (hint, I was doing 2 lvl4's at the same time and 90% of the time would only go two jumps, delivering both packages into the same destination) If you are lucky the storylines will be the combat variety as they can give up to 9% shift...materials of war prep simply doesn't cut it when you are 9.7+ faction, you'll find that often your standing won't even shift (due to rounding)
While 9% seems a huge shift...it isn't really. From memoery, I think the boost is (10 - current standing)*9%. So when you get to 9.8 that equates to .018 faction boost best case.
In my alts case, I got it in my head to grind the standing when I was at 9.6 via distribution agents, still took a few weeks as distribution missions are a pain in the rear.

I told the OP that such a goal would likely drive him insane and gave him alternatives that could be a lot more rewarding in terms of gameplay and sanity.

I got the 2-run CNR print. For me, skills did count towards the standings requirement, as mentioned here.
Then I ran Christer Fuglesang's mission (I wanted his medal) and my beautiful 9.9 modified dropped to a measly 9.somethingodd.

It's 8.5, 9.2, & 9.9 for the respective three COSMOS ship bpc agents. And I can confirm 'effective' and not 'actual' standings are used ie effects of any social skills you have trained ARE taken into account.I traded the silver tags for the 2 run Republic Fleet Firetail BPC recently. As far as Minmatar is concerned if you do all the Minmatar, Gallente, & SOE COSMOS agents in the Minmatar COSMOS area that alone should get you up to 8.5 with Minmatar. |

My exprience. Current faction standing 9.6 on one char, 9.1 on another from running L5s.
Is 9.9 a realistic goal? It certainly is possible . . .
The "fastest" way to reach this point is to run L3 distribution missions. (L3 Storylines on average have about the same Gain as L4s and you can run a lot more of them in parallel). There are constellations with 6-8 L3 distribution agents that rarely send you outside the constellation. I would hate to try and raise my standing like that. The most annoying part is that a lot of storylines are material for war or weak distribution missions that pay less than 1% each. You have this same problem with level 4 storylines.
A "normal" way to reach this standing would be with running combat missions as part of your normal PvE gameplay.
Example #1 - Level 3 courier missions. "Average" faction gain per storyline - 2.5% Number of storylines you need to run to increase from 8-9.9 120 So if you need to run 120 storylines you need to run about 2000 missions. If you ran 32 missions per day then it will take you about 2 months of grinding If the average pay per mission is 50K ISK and 300 LP, durring the grind you'll make 100Mil ISK, and 600K LP. Thats enough LP for 1 Faction Battleship BPCs
Example #2 - Level 4 combat missions. "Average" faction gain per storyline - 2.5% Number of storylines you need to run to increase from 8-9.9 120 So if you need to run 120 storylines you need to run about 2000 missions. If you ran 5 missions per day then it will take you about a year of grinding . . . If the average pay per mission is 2 Mil ISK and 5000 LP, durring the grind you'll make 4Bil ISK, and 10 Million LP. Thats enough LP for 20 Faction Battleship BPCs
Example #3 - L5 missions "average" faction gain per storyline - 8% (there are only two L5 storylines at least for the factions I run) Number of storylines you need to run to increase from 8-9.9 - 37 You need to run 600 missions At 5 missions per day then it will take you about 4 months of grinding . . . durring the grind you'll make 5.4Bil ISK and 57 Million LP Thats enough LP for over 110 Faction Battleship BPCs
Is the 9.9 Standing "worth it"? Absolutly not from any realistic measure. However if you like running missions, it is a goal to work to.

I did it with this character. First my intention was just to grind standings for research agents lvl4, then i started doing COSMOS and data center agents. All that gave me almost 9 standing. After that starts the painful part, the last leap to 9.9. I did it with lvl4 courier missions. As normal missions don't give any faction standing, you are heading for storylines, and only storylines. So the faster you get 16 missions done, the better --> couriers were the best in my opinion.
There are 5 stations which have 2 distribution agents for caldari. Run those over and over again. You also get other distribution agents from the stations that your "home" agents send you to. Take those also, if it doesn't derail your journey a lot. I did keep record of the progress, but it's not on this computer, so I can't provide any exact data. If I remember correctly, it took me somewhere around 1300 courier missions (lvl4,3,2 and 1 all together) to get the necessary storylines. At the moment the agents type you do the normal missions, doesn't effect the storyline type that you get, so always hope for kill mission, those give always 9% raise (lvl4), while crappy war.mats storyline gives under 1%. My average raise from storylines was somewhere between 3,5 and 4%, so a lot of crappy there too.
Don't do this on your main account, since you wont be doing anything else for a while (1,5 months for me with few hours a day, alt-tabbing between accounts and no autopiloting).

Social skills do count, but the effect is miniscule when you are closing the target, basically there is no difference. |

I just play for idea and my goal is 10.00, sadly we dont have good game mechanic, great standings are almost useless, hardcore standings should bring to playes spetial abbilitys or expand whole PvE expirence like spetial task, more chelanges than easy epic arc, even better than lvl 5mission just somthing awesome for Elite hardcore mission runers and i dont talk about profit... also here is lack of design while we look at players - standing - faction relation, we have stading only for reduce reprocesing tax and jump clones, and ability to bulid POS in hight sec, sorry but this is joke... |

You dont need hardcore faction standing like 9+ for any faction to get 100% tax reduction while reporocesing items in station, all what you need is decent normal standing to any npc corporation and this is easy to do, we talk about 9x.. stand to faction and some players have to spent even curple years on pve to get this value, btw your nomal standing to npc corp + some trade skills got impact on trading, you dont need high faction standing for trading. |

I was able to grind to 9.9 once upon a time by living in low sec strangely enough. A place called Ansen has 4 (count 'em, F O U R!!) level 4 distribution agents in the same station for Pend. 80% of the missions sent you 4 jumps to Hek which meant that you could grind a ridiculous number of missions in a day. Had a Navy Mega in no time and never even bothered with the COSMOS missions as I could get all they offered by LP alone.
A T2 Hauler is a definite help as the gate from Bei to Hagalur is camped a lot of the time.
I know this may not help you being Caldari but it's never too late to change sides |
