Hello!
This might have been discussed before. I it has, perhaps someone can direct me to an earlier thread?
The Eve API is a really great start for us developers to be able to do all kinds of third party tools that add value to an already great game.
Now what I would like to be able to do with API next is to be able to actually make in game actions. Anything I can do while docket would be a such an action. This might seem like a lot to ask, but I'm not sure it is. Being able to place and modify market orders (for example) without the Eve client would enable some players to do what they love about the game more often and more effectively. Reading and sending in game mail or using the chat shouldn't really have to be done with the Eve client. Training skills is another example. In short I would love an API allowing me to do anything short of flying my ship! :-)
I realize this is a tall order and that we will never have such an API. It would never the less be interesting to have a discussion on what this kind of an API would mean for Eve and CCP. Would it be possible? What is CCP's view an the API and its future?
Anyway, I think an API (as layed out above) would add enourmous value to Eve.

Well for a start what you describe would produce a nightmare situation where running bots and scripts are the only competitors in the market so it would never work and fundamentally destroy the underlying parts of the game.
Plus it can't happen as all API work has been suspended till further notice. At the moment they only do bug fixes on it, nothing new will be added until they take a look at the situation and make big important decisions.

There is no reason this can't happen today either. Not having the API does not make it impossible (not even hard) to write bots that that automate trading. I would think that we already have bots on the market. To what extent I can't say or guess. One might even argue that having an extended API would make it easier to compete with bots.

OK. Development on the API might continue in the future i guess.

For the very same reason that there are (possibly) market bots in the game already we don't want to make it worse by allowing ANYONE with scripting knowledge to make more of them, EASIER.
What they should focus on is some kind of PunkBuster system that detect third party application that cheat.
However, im not saying the API cant be extended, im saying that the game should be played... well through the game.
Allowing in game actions through API just so you can build a market bot to compete with macro (game altering) bots is like fighting fire with gasoline. (However, there are ways to defeat fire with explosions, this is not the same thing so hush! ) ---------------
