I remember I read some time ago a thread about that. I wanted to renew that idea. Since Trinity is already there (thx ccp), I sure would love to see the different types of launchers on a ship, from where missiles would actually launch. Not just from the center of the ship. We can see different, animated turrets already, how about doing that for us missile users. 
General launcher & missile suggestions:
- missile reload animations. Warheads appear on the launcher or such
- little bulkheads opening when the launcher is activated, closing once deactivated
- more exhaust-smoke emerging from the launcher (imagine a missileboat activating all it's launchers)
- maybe even little engine trails behind a missile in space
- don't make missiles travel all in line towards a target. Atm it looks like glowing balls on an invisible string.
- please, no more supersized "missile-balls" when you launch them at the same time. How about make them travel in some sort of a cluster.
- please, no more missiledetonations on targets even if the missile doesn't reach it
- different launching sounds for the various types
If I remember correctly I think CCP plans a sfx-update for the Trinity engine someday in the future. Maybe they consider that.

I'd like this a lot actually one of the things I always admire in space simulations in particular where they model EVERY part of the ship, not just have it as one blob, certainly a nice fluff feature CCP should consider seeing as how they have turrets too, missiles need love!

Looking at my drake, I'd say it already has a bunch of launchers on it... same goes for manticore... and crow... and many other ships besides. Also, there aren't any dedicated attachment points as you have for turrets. Basically, you would have to completely remodel, and recode, every single ship that is able to fit launchers. Maybe in the next graphics overhaul, but please think what it is you're asking them to do.

They'd have to re-model every ship but they wouldn't have to rip them all apart like they did in the full thing, the game engine is already in place, it's not that hard, they just have to put the time into it.

As far as I know, there is no code whatsoever in place to deal with externally-mounted launchers or their animations. Originally by: Wreth Saran it's not that hard
Please produce even one model of a simple ship before you go saying what's hard and what isn't. You think there's no reason it hasn't yet been done?
