BAE (British Aerospace Engineering) make lots of cool stuff, these railguns are a good example, thing is brits tend to never get credit for it because like Asestorian said, we can never get the stuff first and therefore be given the "its a british weapon!" because we just plain can't afford it (challenger 2 tanks are a good example of this, the brits have a worse model than the saudi's do). ---

220km!? Insane
It would take 4 hours on the Train to go that distance (at least in the UK) and now there's a cannon that can do the same to a projectile in 60 seconds or so?

im pretty sure you missed her point, which was about that "should make war safer for everyone". which tbh is a pretty ******* stupid thing to say.

the potential for rail guns to deliver supporting fire from up to 220 miles away -- around 10 times further than standard ship-mounted cannons -- with rounds landing more quickly and with less advance warning than a volley of Tomahawk cruise missiles.
OMG, the navy is going to invent a sniper Rohk! Me wants!
The more daunting challenge is the force of the rail gun itself: A few shots can dislodge the conducting rails -- or even damage the barrel of the gun.
It looks like they'll be spending a few years learning up their overheating skills though.
Just have to wonder what th shells are currently made from and what kind of payload capacity do they push.
