Reliably for 60 minutes.
After that, it's possible they could last up to an additional hour. It might also just poof at 61 minutes. No idea how it's determined, past 60 minutes.
Organised mining-ops will often label jet-cans with a time-stamp of some kind, to keep track of which ones need to be emptied or refreshed first. It really sucks when a full can of ore blows up.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 29/01/2008 09:21:11 As I always understood they stay one hour standard, and 2 hours if you renamed them. Not sure if this is true or not, I never was much of a miner
But I've mined with named cans and hauler them past the hour and close to the 2 hour mark so there must be some truth in it.

I have thru testing determined that all wrecks and cans last for 2 hours. Period. Regardless if they're named or not. Sorry to bust the bubble, but it's apparent that even unnamned jetcans last for 2 hours.

Agreed, there are rumors going around my corp. about how jetcans can pop after a hour. But i have tested it multiple times and it is 2 hours on the dot. And i have never had a jetcan pop on me that i didnt want to.

The Show Info on a jet can states one hour and anything over that is on borrowed time. DEVs have even commented that same statement. The last statement that I heard, a jet can timer is dependent upon how many people are in the system.

how many cans could a jet can jet if a jet can could jet cans? ------------------
Let me show you around. That's my lab table, and this is my workstool. And over there is my intergalactic spaceship. And here's where I keep assorted lengths of wire. |

Can it jet a can right away or does it have to wait 3min before doing so? Let's assume it has to wait 3minutes. Also what happens at 2 hour mark... can it jet a can before disappearing? Let's assume so.
That would make 40 cans. Now what if all those could also jet a can?
Say after 3 minutes the first jet can jets a can. Now you have 2 jet cans. After 6 minutes they both jet a can and you have 4 cans. 8-16-32-64-128-256-512-1024-2048-4096-8192-16384-32768-65536... At 2 hour mark you would have 549755813888 cans minus the original one that is popping at the same time.

naming a can has absolutely no effect on the timer ------------------------------------

Edited by: Sphit Kar on 01/02/2008 10:39:12 It seam nobody really knows with 100% certainty. I got cans to last a whole lot longer than 1 hour also got popped a few sooner than expected. I learned to jettison a new one to transfer the ORE into every now and then; its lame to lose 21k m3 of Kernite like that you know

That is quite correct, and no matter what other people say, jetcans/lootcans and wrecks last exactly 2 hours(120 minutes)
At one time they were variable, even been known to last up to 23 hours, but CCP made the time an exact 2 hours a long time ago
Btw, if you accidentally leave a jetcan in space before Downtime, it is usually still there after D/T, as D/T freezes the timer on the can...(exception to this is a server reboot, which can really annoy people) ---

I will tell with all certainty that they probably can pop after an hour. LMAO I had one pop while I turned my head for about 1 min sometime shortly after I had mined for an hour.
The only way that his could not have happened is if a hauler that could haul 25,000 m3 could cloak into the belt snag the ore and then warp out in a min, all the while knowing that I had my head turned away from the monitor.
