a distress beacon
When you activate your distress beacon anyone in local can warp to you.

Good way for friendly pilots to help you out. Pirates could also have some fun :)

you could impliment a safe distress beacon that transmits to CONCORD on a narrow band frequeny encrypted and CONCORD then forwards to all known +ve security rated vessles in the area of activation.

The reason I suggest this idea is that I've been playing another game for a week or so and you'll be fighting some npc's and then all of the sudden you'll see a pker attacking some other dude so you go rush over to help out, and then some other peeps rush over and pretty soon you have 5 guys chasing down a pker. In EVE there really isn't a way to rush over and help out unless all of you are at the same belt or something.
So my suggestion is that you have a "distress beacon" and all it would really be is a toggle to allow others to warp to you. Other people in the system would get no notification of this so to prevent "spam"
Example:
I'm fighting some npcs in a busy .2 or .4 and then all of the sudden some dude warps in and target locks me and starts firing away. So I start firing back, activate my "distress beacon" toggle and then announce in local that so and so is attacking and I need help. Then anyone in local that want's to assist has the ability to drop everything and warp to me with no hassle in regards to seeing what belt I'm in or anything like that.
No offense to the guy that suggested a security status based system, but that would probably hurt you more than help, because for one I couldn't come help cause I'm at -.03 and I think some other people that wish to do good are at low security as well, security status is a joke basically.

Yeah. This is a decent idea. Spacers helping spacers.
I'll have to think about the ramifications a little more before I toss out my final opinion on it, though.

Great idea, i like it, could introduce some intersting possiblities for pirates and victims alike. Someone pretending to be in trouble, setting a distress beacon so that pirates trap the people who help out  sounds like so much fun.
oh and respect thats gotta be the most kamp avatar ive ever seen.

Put a 5 minute expiration timer on it and allow only 1 active beacon per pilot.
Make some special sign appear over character with beacon in local chat, so people can right click him and see the warp option. Also, when it is activated, make the pilot automatically say "/me activates distress beacon" in local

Better would be if everyone in the system automatically received an EVEmail, or an onscreen message flashing up. Many people turn blink off on local, because if you're whizzing about the place it's essentially useless for chatting, and if you're sitting in the highway it's impossible to keep up with.

Yes good idea.

Couple of possible alterations to the distress beacon idea that might make it a little less exploitable:
1) One activated, along with that message in local, it displays the security status of the person who activated it. I can see this being real unpopular with pirates so...
2) Instead it relays the most recent combat message in local, of the form say:
"Arrik > (Distress Beacon) Guristas Arrogator lightly hits you for 150000.2 damage"
The second option is probably a bit harder to implement, but has the advantage of giving an idea of the situation of the person who activated it, and still allows for pirates to lure the unwary who don't watch for the situation relay.

Hell why would you wat to do a limitatio on that?
EVE is pretty realistic or tries to......unless you think CONCORD, robbing Corps ad all that......
So why just not leave it as a simple activatio, that allows other ppl to warp to you. Cause potentiallly someoe could scream, im at this or that roid belt please help me, im getting pked........could be a pirate or not........so you would check his corp and sec ratig anyways.......ad the help him......ok thats another 5 secs, but still.
I eve theres no protection against ppl wanting to screw other ppl, as log as its only in game. why change that. And no im no pirate, but allowg pirates to get that distress beacon too would be nice.
But yes most ppl would prolly ignore distress calls. Even if theyre from a good guy......hell you might get shot up yourself, and maybe that some guy i a battleship........ugh better run away "mama"
All of above post was formulated wth 100% honesty and 100% sarcasm. Now i only need to get drunk
The 3rd turret is the Malediction is missing. Plz make as much noise as possible so that CCP gets us a remedy for that, possibly before X-Mas this year. |
