I love drones and try to use them as much as I can however they are as should be difficult to master, one command I lack hwever is a command to defend.
Very often I find my smaller drones I play with using my stabber (cant get much in to a 100m3 drone bay) are a tad hotheaded.
I usually like to kick them out when doing scenareo missions, not cos they are of much use but rather because it spices upp them drag lev 1, 2 scenareo ones.
In thise missions you have to reach a can fast and clear out the NPC round it. If there are NPC guarding the can you cant open it.
Sadly the light scout drones are damn aggressive and as soon as their target goes poof they speed off to engage the next NPC, this has several times attracted other NPC and I have had to kill them too before being allowed to open the can with the report, tourist, data sheet or VIP in it.
What I would like is a guard command, the drones will hunt anyone that fires on me if I give that command, if noone is fiering on me (or the drone itself) then it returns and orbits.
The way the command would help me is that I would order the drone to attack a target, then hit defend and it would kill the target and then if no hostiles are about fly back to me.
Upp untill my recent playing with drones this is how I thought it did work but as my drones have at times streaked off to engage NPC that are 30km away and dont show up as threats I think I have ither been mistaken or the interface is broken somehow.

guard would be kinda nice but it would invite AFK mining
people could sit in a Armageddon / Dominix with 10 heavy drones floating around them without fear in relatively low sec space __________________________________________

people in bs dont afk mine. the only way they can is if they use mouse macros. those people are exploiters, and they get banned for it. i'm quite sure ccp has a method for detecting macros(continuously repeating patterns out to be detectable). 99.99% mine the old fashioned way. drag an drop, every minute or 2.
i also would like to see some more drone commands though. guard would be nice, as would a guard location or other person command. guard location so you can deploy them a bit away from you and not have to have them orbiting :P. or instead of orbit, how about return and formate? i.e. they form up off to the left or right side of your ship and stick there, not moving until they get another command. also an option to break off and return when damaged would be nice. as well as a way to repair damaged drones in space.
right now its pretty much like teaching a dog come and fetch, and nothing else. rather limited.
and i know this is just a minor annoyance, but can you stop drones from bouncing my half mile long battleship around?

Grouping drones would be one of the most usefull things in my opinion. Having a drone window with 10 heavies open, the always resizing drone interface window, you cargobay for dropping loot and a few chat windows doesn't leave much room for seeing whats around you.
So small drone icons, or perhaps fuse the dronebay window and the drone interfaceinto one.
But again. grouping drones would be the most needed. All that select all, launch, then launch again on the ones that didn't launch etc etc.

patrol would be another useful option. With options of 10, 15, and 20km. Another guard option would be guard gang. While active, drones would respond to threats to the entire gang, not just your ship. Being able to cancel orders would be nice as well.

Actually what I am after is a command that gives the order:
Kill the thing you are attacking and then come back and orbit, I just get teed off when my drones charge off and attack NPC that I have not targeted and that are not attacking me.
As for afk mining in BS, if an NPC attacks you the drones should under the current mechanics defend your ship automaticly, I want a way to not have to be on my toes as the target gets dested.

I actually find that quite useful though. When I'm fighting npcs in my bs and I have a tiny frigate coming in close, sometimes by the time I lock him, he will be way inside my turrets range. The quick answer is just to launch the drones, which get a really fast lock and toast him, then order them to return and orbit before they charge off the confront the 3 cruisers at 50km that my turrets are shooting.

About AFK mining - drones are the first targets for NPCs and smart PC, and got killed pretty fast if not well organized, so i see no problem about that issue.
