hi there, i've been playing eve for two or three months now, but only in the last week so found how much isk making fun you can have trading....however...
reading the market discussion forums i'm seeing people saying things like 'i just love seeing my wallet flash every so often while i'm missioning' or 'i come home from work and i'm X million the richer!'. well, that doesn't seem to be the case for me.
right now i'm trading only in jita (and doing ok by my standards), putting in low buy orders and selling high(er), however i'm finding that there's so much competition there that i'm lucky if orders get filled up to 2-3 hours after placing at the most (on a good day), then nothing as i'm outbid.
i assume, but wanted to check with you guys, that this is just what jita-only trading is like? do things get better/easier if you find yourself a quieter system to buy and sell in and concentrate on moving stuff to where it's needed, and also finding the right items to sell with less competition?
hmmm maybe i've answered my own question there! is it just jita's too busy to really see all day results without someone knocking you off the top? |

You've hit the nail on the head. If you're in Jita and trading anything with reasonably high volume or profit, expect to have to update your orders constantly. There are, however, many other places to trade that can make you money as well.
Personally, I do my trading in Jita, but I have the luxury of being able to check in on my orders from work, so I am able to update them all day. --

Haha, wait until some competitor tricks you into losing tens of millions of isks on a bad deal, and you'll see if it it's easy or not.

Trading, like poker, is a hard way to make an easy living.
Some of the younger traders haven't encountered the "hard" part yet, but that doesn't mean it's not there, waiting to bite them if they screw up in a way they don't even realize is a screw-up yet. And once you've mastered that, as you hit each new meta-level of trading, you'll find new hard parts. Somewhere out there is the ubertrader, sitting on top of the stack, out-meta'ing us all, but I doubt even he knows who he is. The rest of us, even those who make billions a day, are living off of his scraps.
Wow, that was kind of depressing. Sorry. Still true, though.

Trading in Eve is like Trading in real life well in this analogy anyway... Look at people like Bill Gates and Richard Branson They make trading look very easy if you look at the bank balances and the time it took them to create it. Ask them if it was easy though and you'll get a completely different story. Same as eve you can come and look at MD and see post after post saying how easy it is to billions a day, but ask any player with sizable wealth if it was easy to get or maintain?
Lots of Research, lots of time and lots of luck is the best formula for trading. If you can do it you will make a mint. If you cannot then you may make some money but will probably just be helping a bigger better trader make his/her Isk. First both of those people have never traded!
Second you are right but what you didn't say was that for all of the big traders to make their isk they need to game and use the smaller traders. Trading can't make isk so it just redistributes isk. Meaning that to make isk you need to take it from other people.
Trading can be easy but to be able to make billions you need skills and knowledge.

First, Both them people have traded. ! do you own a PC with Windows Installed. Where does windows come from Microsoft (hmm who created them?) And unless I have been ripped off I'm sure everyone has to buy windows. Richard Branson Owns lots of retail outlets aswell. So please explain why you think they don't trade. Second, Buy some "Hydrogen Batteries" from Station a at 150Isk take it to station B and sell it for 175 Isk. Well done you just created 25Isk from Trade.
Perdantics over. Good point about big traders using smaller traders to increase profits/velocity of sales using clever manipulations.
