PvP also applies to economics & forums it seems.
As for limiting the number of tickets a person can buy....well, after a certain point, the price of tickets bought will exceed the potential profit from winning. Also, if limited to 1-2 numbers a character, then alts would be brought in to make the purchases.

True, but I'd think unless there is multiple fleet lottos running concurrently, you will have a good number of people missing out. There is no denying that the event has grown in popularity, and I think the rules of it may need to shift to keep up with that. In the end, though, it's not my decision, so I'll respect whatever Carthem decides.
EDIT: Also, this is an event that is run once a week that sold out of tickets in a little over 12 hours.

I think a better analogy would be Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and that one rich Venezuelan guy buying the company that makes the scratchoff tickets.

A maximum number of tickets HAS been suggested before as a matter of fact. I am considering running duplicates of each one I do. As has been pointed out, at some point the amount of money exceeds the money you gain. However, this would just lead to alts buying tickets.
I think, that at least for now, I will NOT set a limit for tickets bought and I will try the multiple lottos idea.

Perhaps running concurrent lottos for each fleet type. 4 times the opportunities, 4 times the fun (and hassle).
