Hello.
This post continues the mutual petition of EVE functionality extension. It was asked to make players able to extract implants from a podded char's head. A background discussion of this idea lead to some thesis listed below.
1. Only actually plugged implants can be extracted
First contridea received was a case when a player makes an additional char, brings him to space, kills and extracts implants. That is wrong understanding of extraction process. Ofcourse a player has a chance to extract an implant if it was actually pluged into the victim's head.
2. Char is unable to extract an implant from himself
Implant extraction is a very hard process. And there is no ability to extract an implant without killing a body. If char would try to extract the implant from his own head, he would kill himself and would not be afle to finich the extraction process. So this ability should not be supported.
However, if a char has a jump clone with an implant plugged in, char may try to extract it at a cost of a jump clone.
3. The ability to extract an implant should be limited in time
Technically it means that a frozen corpse will become the same useless as it is now after some time spent after got podded. It can be explained in a way that there is no ability for the implants to stay operational for a long time after their performance control was lost.
4. The chance to extract an implant should be very limited
The chance to extract an implant should be about 10%ù15% when having corresponding skill at level 5 (or at 4 if skill rank will be very high).
For example to pick up an implant having +4 attribute modifier a player should make two pod-kills in general. Ofcourse unlucky one may receive no implants even after 10 pods ùáthat's OK.
As I know the idea of extracting implants is not new to EVE. If anyone remembers why this idea haven't come to life, write here. It would be interesting to hear both pros and contras.

You want more of an incentive to shoot at pods?
Also, that would reduce the number of corpses floating around gates those are fun to collect... ç¦ |

The extraction time limit will lead to situation when a killer may have no profit of scooping the corpse.
In every PVP I came across winners try to catch POD and demand some money (assuming implants safe) or just killing it. The fact of getting any profit from PODing will increase the payout amount, but the POD will not be easier to catch, so this feature will not significantly increase podkills.
BUT it will allso decrease the feature of ejecting from a ship in low secs when attacked by centries near gates 'cause some pedestrian will pod with a great pleasure to extract the imps.

Nice idea.
But chance of extracting should be lower then that : lets say : 1% if no chirurgical skill (need science V, electronics V). +1% for each lvl of the skill (rank 7) an adding +1% for each lvl of advanced chir (rank 12).
That make a total of 11% if all skill at 5...and it's more then enough.
Also corps should belong to the player that got the final blow just like loots.

I like the idea. It would offer more services for the medical bay than just clones and JC's. Since you know, we pod pilots aren't exactly doctor's here.

I'd prefer if the regular implant blueprints were seeded on the market.

So it leads to 9%ù11% (both at level 4, both at level 5) ù yes, actually 10% was found as most popular veriety.

As of scoop right (like loot right), I don't know. As podkilling usually occurs at 0.0s, no rights are applicable there. If we are talking about podkilling at 0.1ù0.4, it has some specific then. Podkilling is a crime even in case of shoot right and official war. So the killer would be attacked if he goes to a station or to a stargate. And as a low sec podkiller is usually a pirate, he doesn't need a right to shoot ùáhe just shoots (and tries to catch a second pod). But this funcionality may be useful if some ôHe stole your corpse!ö flag is received.

Another step on the way to make trade goods from some implants. I think I'd support such initiative, so you might start a conversation thread with some thesis upon implant manufacturing.

whats stopping me from passing my own corpse to a friend with the skills to extract my old implants and then having him pass me my implants back? May as well just let us extract implants from our own corpses. _____________________

That means that you wouldn't be able to extract implants from the head you are currently using. She mentioned extracting implants from your jump clone, or if you managed to pick up your own corpse, it is no longer you, so you could.
However, this idea will never happen. Implants being unretrievable after being plugged in is kind of the point.

So basically your saying you want a body salvager, lol. Or do you just collect corpes and then reprocess them at a station to see if any implants were salvagable.
Maybe tie level of implant to level of probability. So if the guy had plus 5% implants your chances of getting an implant from him are higher, but maybe you only get the plus one version most of the time, plus 3 some of the time, and undamage plus 5% rarely. Figure if the guy had all ten slots implanted you ought to get something out of it.
This would seed implant use more, because more would become available.

Standard implants are readily available. This only really makes sense for rare implants and those should stay as rare as they are. To sum it up, no I don't agree.

Yoy should catch one with rare implants first. I'd say that implant extraction will cause their count to grow on 10%. As the killed one would surely go for market to restore his implant set.
This would give a basic chance for these chars who newer go for missions but doing PVP only (or mostly).

The first idea was to make it in salvage format. But the idea of using medical installations at stations proposed here seems more interesting. It will make the killers to choose between loot and corpse, pirate will have to travel somewhere to extract implantsà so i'd suppose that sometimes pirates will just leave a corpse at their places or jettison them to collect some more attractive loot.
And BTW personally I see no reason in making the veriety different for rare and common implants. If a pirate receives some rare implants he can sell it from one side, but he can also whish to buy other set parts from another side.

Hm well ok, that's a valid argument. But then again implants are not in short supply. Quite the contrary, they're cheaper than ever. So the easiest way would be to simply buy them. It's better than the LP store anyway.
So this would again boil down to looting some expensive snake or slave implants. I'm not quite sure whether or not it's a good idea.

Should I be able to setup a medical clone near me, commit suicide in my hanger floor, wake up in my medical clone and take the implants out of my original body though? -------- Yes, I know I'm an alt, what are you going to do about it? |

Think of the hungry suicide gankers. And all those travellers that suddenly become profitable enough to pop and pod.

The advantage of life market is that one would sell implant only if he is going to get some frofit from it's sell. If the prices go down some players would stop selling implants, some people would start hunting them (again to extract one imp you should destroy nine in general), so prices would stay the same.

It's up to you ù not every corporation and char has a standing afforting this operation. You extract imps at a cost of jump clone, so you'd do it only if you don't need this clone at all, or if you can create a new one.
