I see the Devs are finally trying to get a grip on doing something for the Holy Empire and all its devoted citizens.
Here is an Idea
I used to play a Pen and Paper game years ago called Traveler... it was a space based game and the main weapon everyone used was... you guessed it! LASERS!
The defense against Lasers was a "Sand Caster" ... and it did exactly that, launched a packet of sand which exploded and diffused the incoming laser beams.
I think this would be a grand idea to help in the balance of Amarr.
Introduce Sand Caster Mods.. high slot take charges... defense against Lasers (Caldari have their anti-missile nemesis, why shouldn't Amarr have a race specific defense against their weapons)
Ok now here is the bit you can't forget... BUFF Lasers... damage output cap use the whole shooting match!
Sand casters would be a high slot fit and take charges.
Thoughts?

"(Caldari have their anti-missile nemesis, why shouldn't Amarr have a race specific defense against their weapons)"
You know, there's a reason why virtually no-one uses defender missiles.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

caldari only has specific anti missile weapons as missiles never miss (ignoring speed tanking them)

Doubt they'd consider a whole new defensive weapons system, though. Look at all the problems they've had with Defender missiles... -- Meridius Dex --

Easy it gives options to people... who in PVP is gonna fit sand casters taking up a high slot unless the fleet they are fighting is all Amarr?
Lasers get a nice BOOST to go along with the introduction of sand casters... In other words if you don't fit sand casters lasers will do more damage.
PVE and specialized PVP kits will be able to use sand casters to reduce damage from the buffed lasers... not ELIMINATE the damage.
See where this is going?

You can count me among the old people who played Traveler.
I would rather have spinal mounts than sand casters, though.

I think the Dooms Day weapons are almost the same, just not focused.

But then people would need Reactive Armor to balance against minmatar and gallente.

I was thinking about this:
Gallente main weapon is drones, counter would be shooting them, or smart bombing them. Both of which you can easily do ATM.
Minmatar projectile weapons have a counter in tracking disrupters.
Though I agree that if the "Boost" to Amarr stands as is then it isn't much of a boost, and benifits Minmatar at least as much.
It is definately a nurf for any poor bastage trying to shield tank (Caldari)
I hope the Devs have a few more carefully planned steps in this "Buff" and arn't flying by the proverbial seat of their pants.

Traveller FTW!
The first boardgame I ever bought and only because the (then) 32-page rulebook first edition of Star Fleet Battles was sold out.
Steve Jackson's Car Wars was a fave too. Villains and Vigilantes and Morrow Project. Bushido. Chainmail. Sigh...
But yeah, anything to nerf lasers and Amarr in particular would be great.

They would probably use volumetric fog for their graphical effects meaning extreme lag if a bunch of them were used at once. I'm sure some people who would use them just for that purpose.

Traveller was great.
However, lasers already have an effective counter - tracking disruptors.

Damn you both, made me googlesearch Traveller and got lost in wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveller_(role-playing_game) ,damn fun read with some perspective to things.
Btw; misread your title (early in the day here *coughs*) as "..sandcastles". Was expecting a comparison with how easy it is to destroy something built in sand and then got this read instead. Hahaha.
