There's a pretty questionable tactic existing that allows people to save their hi-sec POSs during wardecs by timing stront to > 1 day.
If someone then puts it in reinforced and they leave their alliance, they are effectively safe from repercussions, because the war-dec will end before their stront-timer runs out.
For the deccing corp you have only one choice: to put the vote in again, wait 2 days (by which time they have repped and stronted up their POS), and go back to putting it into reinforced again, and hope they don't just corp/alliance hop again.
What do you think? An exploit or not?

Edited by: Maeltstome on 01/02/2008 11:34:55 I find the fact you can have POS's in high-sec pathetic anyway. IMO It should be a 0.0 thing only.
PS.
I think it's more of a game mechanic. -------

they would be able to alliance hop to avoid the war (which has been deemed an exploit) but unless they have have multiple corps with the standings required for high sec pos placement (100-300mil per corp) plus the time to rip down the pos and set it up again under the new corp name jumping corps isn't going to help them. A pos belongs to the Corp not to the player.
If they are ripping down the pos and setting it every time they hop corps than your in luck and have fun with em.

Ok, so if they hop back to their old alliance I guess it's an exploit? Good. I'll have a petition ready, because I'm pretty sure that is their intent

Not having POS in highsec would make the already populated lowsec moons very populated and smaller corps wouldnt stand a chance in acquiring a POS in lowsec.
Ofcourse this would make lowsec more populated but smaller corps wouldnt most likely be able to hold out their own. Nowadays you NEED a POS if you want to research anything really or do Invention properly. --- Teeheee! mematar's Video Archive |

Agreed that hisec POS's are lame anyway.
However, I do not see why leaving alliance to save on should be exploit, even with > 1 day stront.
Try declaring war on them. With less help available now they have left the alliance, they are more vulnerable. This gives you more options. You're better off at this point.

Yeah, I will probably do that. It's a lame tactic though, because this means having to knock it into reinforced yet again, and blowing POSes are boring when all you want is for them to just bring everything they have for good fights

Edited by: Slate Fistcrunch on 01/02/2008 14:07:14 Had this done to me before to save a large ship assembly array in hi sec before they were removed. Petitioned and not an exploit. Bug reported and intended game mechanic.
Obvious solution is for war declaration to remain on a corp that has left a war dec'ed alliance or for the aggressor corp to have the option to immediately continue the war against the target corporation without the vote and 24 hour wait.

So if your goal is fights, and you attacked the POS and they left the alliance instead of fighting, re-declaring isn't likely to get you fights either.
I wouldn't know what to suggest apart from stop utterly pwning people. Lose a few ships, encourage them to come out more.
POS bashing sure is boring, but luckily you rarely need to destroy POS.
Most industrial corps can do a quick calculation on the likely cost of interrupting 7 research jobs and losing a POS that they have no clue how to defend. And as long as you don't take the mick, you can get some nice trinkets from them, they're the ones with the T2 production going on after all... snag yourself a batch of polycarbs or something.
They also know that they might not be in a position to re-anchor a hisec tower easily if this one pops.
It's a strong position to be in. Even if they hire mercs... well that's 100% win. Since you get your fights, most likely some nice loot, and then you get to attack the POS again once the payment period is over. The ol' little merc magic maths trick that they don't want anybody to know about. -- Death of an insidious dictator Birth of a new one

I move that if POSes are allowed in highsec with appropriate standings, capitals should be allowed also.

This happened to me while I was in Mafia.
I think if the POS has been put in to reinforced then it should be able to be attacked no matter what, even if the corp has left the alliance. Obviously the specifics would have to be considered.
Despite this, as long as the corp does not rejoin the alliance I don't think it should be petitionable.

What we did was telling them to pay us or we would war dec their corp even though it wasn't in the alliance anymore. We got paid and was happy, but still i think it is a border-line tactic to use.

Indeed Barzam, to go back to your original post about this problem, I am a member of a Mercenary group called Trinity Nova. we are currently under a contract and although the majority of the details are classified I am able to release some relevant information.
On Monday 28th January we put a Corporations POS into Re-enforced, it was in a 0.3 system and the said Corporation were a valid war target. It was due to come out of reinforced in 36 hours. Needless to say said corporation left there alliance to save there POS, I genuinely do believe that this is an exploit and its not right for people to think they can run away from there alliance just to save there POS, we are a Corp of 40 brave souls, they are an alliance of 450 individuals, needless to say my CEO thought the same was not best pleased.
My CEO decided that we were going to teach said Corp not to turn its back on there alliance.
On a misty cold morning on Wednesday 30th of January we got up early and took the Sec hits: POS down
If your going to run, expect us to be faster!
Now if this was a POS in 0.5 and above I would say we would be very much annoyed at this time :)

Indeed. This particular case was a 0.2 POS, which we took the sec-hits to bring down anyway even though they left the alliance. I was afraid they were going to continually drop crappy frigs and stuff on us to drop our sec-status to -10 but they didn't bring anything at all.
However, I think this is a common tactic in +0.5 as well, and there your options are more limited against this sort of behaviour.
