As a Venezuelan, when a friend passed me this video link , a Venezuelan in exile too, like me, and proceeded to watch it in its entirety, I felt the need to cry a bit and remember my own personal journey as I practically fled my country seeking greener pastures abroad.
This is a 1956 CREOLE PETROLEUM CORPORATION film, perhaps to be shown to other people from the USA before going there as a preparation tool back in the 50's.
Just wanted to share it, and perhaps see , if in a bit simplistic and naive way the Country we once were and the road we built for ourselves until certain political events tumbled everything down in an uncertain path.
Right now, as I share this video with the bulk of my Venezuelan friends, all of them spread around the globe I remember the few friends I had and that I lost to common crime, political strife and social instability in my country.
Assignment Venezuela (1956)

Out of pure curiosity, how much of this video is just propaganda? Or is this a realistic portrayal of Venezuela in 1956? |

Interesting video, and I found the following link from around the same time (December 1955) about Creole Petroleum in Venezuela, but you have to be a Time subscriber to read the whole article.

100% propaganda, Only a few oil towns had that look, much of the country lived in poverty and oblivion. All these companies paid little or no taxes, and only took care to remove the oil and export it, leaving nothing the country.
The literacy rate in the population over 10 years increased from 51.2% in 1950 to 91.1 in 1998 and 99.6% in 2008. In 2005 Venezuela was declared by UNESCO as a territory free of illiteracy
The Human Development Index for Venezuela in 1950 was 0.46, in 2008 was 0.82, but our country is currently taking high levels of poverty, but not as many as 1950.
Who could be so naive or ignorant to blindly believe propaganda of multinational oil companies? |

You do know that a post like that will earn you links showing you how there is no difference between the two parties, right? Or are you just parroting things you get told on TV?
It's called a clue. They are free you just have to think a little.

You can argue that the two parties are the same all day if you want. I think he was referring to the common voter who takes every word that comes out of the republican party as 100% true. These people are idiots.
Not saying that the democratic party doesn't necessarily have the same thing, but the republican party seems to have a lot more. All I have to do to prove this is go down the street to the local trailer park...
And it's arguable that the structure and belief system of the democratic party is at least fundamentally different in how they operate compared to the republican party, in terms of those in congress... |

Of course they didn't give back to you guys they are a company, not your government. If you government didnt take care of you or help your country out, you would have problems. Its fair for companies to not become your government.
Its like a kid still has the same parents even if another adult enters the house. Your telling me if I visit you I am now your dad, and you old dad isn't real anymore, I dont understand.
I do know certain countries do like to be left wing always, and when get hard and they can't always be that way they are angry. Venezuala reminds me of that. I dont know dude, people like their parents, they die, I like dogs, but dogs die. I dont know why you can't always be left or get what ya want. disorientating |

To make business run smooth, you need smooth sailing and a means to that end is propaganda. This is pure and unadulterated propaganda by a company which want to bask in a sympathetic and likeable light of benign goodwill.
Theres a name for this phenomenon and it s called 'Culture of affirmation'. It s when people produce as well as seek out information that affirms their beleifs or views rather than to produce or seek out objective and unbiased information.
It takes effort and energy to be a critical and objective citizen in todays media landscape and propaganda and misinformation from commercially hijacked political entities and interests are rife today, all in the name of freedom of speech and the 1st amendment.
In modern times, the prime example of this is the United States of America where journalism quickly is becoming a victim of the capitalistic drive to make money.
