This idea has NOT been thought through fully, by any manner of means and I want to make that clear from the get-go but would love people's feedback on this proposed thought....
The new Star that we can all see, burning brightly on the EVE skyline....what if that were to become a similar portal that brought the denizens of New Eden here in the first place....only this time it brings a threat to the whole Eve Verse.
Crashing through this new portal comes a new evil...something akin to Ripley's Aliens, only bi-pedal and even more cunning. They're ship faring and highly advanced...so advanced in fact that they take on the Jovians as first bait.
They Jovians in turn, break their self styled coventary and turn for the first time to the Empires for support in the suppression of this new force, explaining that if they themselves are in trouble this time (and they're supposedly more advanced than the other four races) then it's in everyones interest to get involved here...or face extinction. Jove space is opened to the Empires as they come pouring in to help stop-gap the seemingly endless flow of these abominations, bent on the destruction of mankind.
Here, a select few players (say perhaps those who've been EVE players for 3 years or more) could be given the option by CCP of acquiring a new Jovian character. This would put a personality behind the first 7-8 thousand or so Jovian characters.
The up-coming Faction Warfare (F.W.) that's being proposed will obviously put an idea like this on the back-burner as CCP evaluate how F.W concept affects game-play.
Perhaps the idea is too "cheesy Hollywood", but if the whole Verse was to be put on the knife edge of a continual war for our continued existence and let's say they ran the idea for a 6 month period where we were all more or less united (not-with-standing the political turmoil that would be going on in the background as Corps vie for continued control of their space) it has the potential to be an interesting way to meet the Jovians, unite the Verse for a period of time, and then we'd have the really interesting "return to normality" after hopefully vanquishing the bad guys which could have very far reaching consequences to the constantly unfolding, as yet unwritten, story of New Eden.
Please make your replies constructive and not critical of the OP....like I said, it hasn't been thought through and I'd welcome the more experienced players to help map out the "whys and wherefores" of how this idea could be fleshed out...if at all.

I don't mind the concept of an enemy that couldn't be played and is just an outright enemy of humanity, but it's worth making the point that rogue drones fit that description.
Also, as a side note, in the FAQ there is a small blurb about players maybe one day having the opportunity to be mutated(?) into Jovians. I'm not sure what that means or if it even means anything anymore, but it's there and may help your idea.

To us the Jovians are gods. To the Jovians, we are dogs. Would you want to mutate a dog to a god? Maybe the reason there are no new Jove chars isthey stopped breeding!

I also posted something along this line
The jove are not evil enough and the drones are just stupis machines.
I'd love to see an enemy so tough that it actually started to eat away at the empires and force new alliances just to survive. It would inject some serious fear into the eve universe and force us to get working together against a common enemy.
Especially for the old alliances but also for new players, this would be awesome. Also the missions would become much more interesting (although, i haven't seen all of them yet)..
Why? The old ideas are still great, going undercover into kilrathi space. The Thargoids, the enemies in I-War2 etc etc.
The jove as far as I can tell was a good idea but could be done much bigger and more evil. Also the storyline within the eve universe would take on a really engaging plotline that would inject some new imagination into the game.
There are loads of species models out there to choose from. Even star trek introduces new and more evil enemies from time to time.
The Klingons, then the borg, then species 842 etc etc. The jove are just the klingons! Bring on the evil all-consuming insectoid wrath of Giger's alien and the borg mixed into one!!! And make them TOUGH AS HELL! Maybe even all their technology is much harder than anything else in the game, so that when an alien battleship is killed for the first time it makes the news!!

While I sort of like the basic idea, I don't think it should be implemented. EVE is based around a stable world, with a stable economy and certain basic rules. If those rules a broken, it could be interesting, but nonetheless it violates EVE's mechanics, which is that the players create the world around them and if it changes dramatically, it's their own fault. CCP is just there to keep everything in control. This idea could potentially be implemented as long as it doesn't affect the players forcefully. They have to be given the option of participating or ignoring. If the world is forcefully changed by someone other than them, it violates the spirit of EVE.
Just my 2 isk.

why should the jovien even show their faces?
and what good would come out of it? there ships/mods/etc are way to overpowered to EVER come into the hands of players, as enemies .. hehe.. heheheheheehehe.. yer why even bother with the thought, imagine a jove titan type ship :P yup there goes the galaxy XD
so joves will never be seen again. I declare war on stupidity |
