Edited by: Silverlancer on 28/03/2004 11:34:22 Hundreds of people have been complaining about lag in Luminaire and Yulai during peak hours.
But, for some reason, I get no lag at all. I'm flying through in an indy over and over, target locking people to test the lag... and its smooth and perfect.
There's 120-130 people in local.
My specs are:
3000/256 Cable P4C 2.4Ghz 512MB PC3700 DDR 80GB ATA133 HD Asus P4P800-VM Radeon 9700NP (modded to 9700P)
My cache isn't clean either. And I'm running stuff in the background, and there's a router for my network.
If we can figure out why my comp never seems to lag in Yulai and Luminaire, maybe CCP can fix the lag problem for those who do lag...
I keep noticing that half of the people here claim no lag, others claim tons of lag, and they all have the same speed connection and similar computers...

Edited by: Scorpyn on 29/03/2004 10:07:34 Too little RAM, causing it to use the swapfile perhaps?
And it depends on the kind of lag... is it the session-switching lag or fps that is meant? Or both?
Edit : Rephrased a little...

What ever you may want to say. I have not been able to play for hours like I once did since the 1408 patch. Stargates CTD me, Station is laggy. I have done everything. Clear cahce re-installed eve. Played with my 56k modem connection.
I would like to know if there is a problem or is my game over. I wonder why while lagging that there is no activity on my internet connection, then I go CTD. I have had minor problems before with Eve but I cant even make 1 jump.
I hope things change soon. I need my fix. I am spending too much time with the wife. --------------------------

With 56k you need to see if your using 100% cpu resources. If you are and using a software 56k modem there are not enough resources to keep the connection and thus, it ctds and disconnects. It could be directly related to your video card actually. I recall some video card drivers (even with cable modem) caused lag in some games I played. When I switched back to an older release the lag was gone.
I can honestly say...with 56k I do not lag at luminaire and Yulai and I'm in USA so I am doubtful it is my ping. Perhaps a tracert to the server is the problem for some people and some nodes are being overworked than others. Hit CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+M. If your frame rate is really lowe (fps), try downing the graphics a bit and see if that improves your conection. Graphics look pretty but take resources from computers and can cause people with 56k to ctd and disconnect.

What does CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+M do?
I went back to an older GFX 2 driver. But I think my whole problem resides in the last few patches. I really am going to try an fly without auto pilot? I do not jump very well. I have lag when I turn on my auto pilot? When I try to dock using the menu off the scanner, I have stations activated in setting in my scanner??? Things are starting to come together here. It might be the auto stuff. I will try tonight to make it a manual travel. I wonder if the scanner could be the problem? . Talk about going back in time. --------------------------

the ctrl+shift+alt+m brings up the useful monitor. it display frame rate, networking, mem usage and more stuff that I have no idea about :)

I've got a similar spec PC and the only time I have seen "lag" in any sector is when the game itself is taking up a large amount of memory and starts using the windows swap file.
try checking the task manager in windows when lag starts to see how much memory EVE has eaten. I have seen it over 500Mb on one occasion.

Edited by: Hawk Firestorm on 31/03/2004 12:08:28 To be honest I don't think this is a 'lag' prob of such but more of a problem with the latest builds.
There seems to be another mem leakage in the client, my mem util is havin to claw back over 100MB every few mins.
Massive disk activety with no modem access, kinda makes me think this is a problem with the clients resource management rather than connectivety personally, especially when this vanishes after a reboot.
Came in with castor prior to that can't say I had any probs in yulai etc, and it's always been a busy area.

Edited by: Gart kaliso on 31/03/2004 13:09:04 well, the main problem of any lag i get is nothing to do with latency its disk access (presumibly) reading and wrting to cache on windows 98 while updating the game. due to the way fat32 works windows 98 pauses while writing/reading any large amount and thus causes what appears to be (but isnt)lag.
solution, upgrade to a real Os that is capeable of real multi tasking, solution 2 ccp re-write the game to cater for a nearly obsolete os (not going to happen).

Here's why lag isnt so bad on the highway systems.
They have more server nodes.
Here's how to help resolve lag or at least one of the causes, FIX THE GRAPHICS BUG, every single time I go into a battle or there is a large number of people in the gang or when we mine, I get 10 paocs 7 tempests and 3 scorps stuck to my ship.
When we mine after about 30mins we get 40 drones stuck on the ships, all this cant be helping the lag problem.
We've had this issue for several months now and its still not been fixed, bug hunters please push this issue forward its gone on long enough now.
