Just a suggestion; you really need to rework the font type for that site. It's horrible UI to have a font type that some cannot read.
Regarding the article, he has a point regarding the broken mechanics. But on the flip side, both sides have abused the broken mechanics. You have griefers who create shell corps, join and then unjoin. So it goes both ways.
Apparently, once you create a sig. You can't completely delete it. So this is my sig...for now. |

There needs to be a balance between the two extremes, in my opinion. Targets shouldn't be able to quickly, cheaply and easily sidestep wars GÇö but neither should mercenaries be able to wage protracted wars at little cost to them and grind their targets to dust with total impunity. New and innovative mechanics and limitations are necessary.
In my years of intermittently playing this game, I have yet to see such a balance struck. The pendulum has always rested on either easy avoidance, or on targets being more-or-less at the mercy of superior forces.
Ultimately, I'd like to see mercenaries getting enough work (and targets) to make their EVE lives satisfying and rewarding, while the peaceful forest folken who can't or don't want to fight have some recourse other than to log out and not play the game. Wow, a whole 237 words.... what a riveting article.
I especially liked the part where someone said that if CCP didn't do something then they will leave the game.

I thought that was funny too. If the only thing you consider yourself to be good at is hisec merc work and that is no longer a viable option for you to the point that you are considering leaving, then good riddance. You're really no better than the bears you often make fun of (and dec) because they couldn't adhere to the 'adopt or die' attitude that is Eve. Irony. Apparently, once you create a sig. Obviously the loss of Jita campers and their remote sensor boosting and neutral logistics alts would be a fatal blow to our sandbox. |

Based on what I see on DOTLAN it looks like they already have.
Empire based "Mercs" are a joke anyway, they dec people that have no interest of fighting them, and really could care less about the wardec. The 0rphanage had a penchant for decing large 0.0 sov holding alliances and temporarily disrupting their empire trading, until they got wise to the 'regular rotation' and just used out of alliance, or npc corp alts to move their stuff to low-sec.
Mercenary work is still extremely active outside of Empire, and there are plenty of people taking of it. They are just upset that they actually have to committ 100% to fights instead of hiding behind the security curtain of neutral alts and aggression mechanics.
Its pretty interesting to see 100-250 people in Jita on the undock; the only real alternative high sec pvpers have left is to wardec other highsec pvpers, and most of them don't want to do that since they are just ask risk averse as the people they are complaining about. ^^ Good points, but it really just boils down to empire mercs having to deal with the empire wardec system while nullsec mercs do not.
As for hisec wars, the mechanics there need an overhaul. I believe CCP has acknowledged this. GMs do not enforce the alliance jumping rule so CCP can see how current mechanics are used/exploited in advance of their upcoming expansion focusing on "war." That aside, the usage of neutral alts will never change regardless of what changes ccp makes to war mechanics (alts will be useful even if neutral repping is nerfed, besides, CCP makes more money encouraging people to use alts). Everyone knows about the use of alliance jumping to shed wardecs, however before today I hadn't considered how dec shield could be used in combination with stront timers to make it impossible to take down an otherwise completely undefended pos. Also, as mentioned earlier, aggressors can go red-flashy in space through acceptance of corp applications, a currently legal mechanic considered an exploit by many. |

You're right, it is broken. It gives a 'safety' to empire dwellers that you couldn't get before, and now, anchored assets are 100% risk free if fully stronted.
However, those "hardcore pvp" empire types now have to fight the willing, which previously wasn't something they wanted to do before; I was in the 0rphanage for a long time, on different characters, they had just as many risk averse carebears as your average empire mining corp did with the minority of the entire organization actually being interested in getting shot at... First things first: Not entirely sold that this article was actually written / quoted ThePitboss correctly.
You can consider some of it broken but really the only two things that anyone has the right to complain about was alt logi cap transfer / rep cycles ending due to new aggro (thank you incursion protection CCP crap).
And the logoffski. being able to log off and knowing that even if you become pointed you will still warp off and be safe after 15 seconds is the worst thing ccp has ever done. Its called aggro, and its called warp scrambling, CCP fix it...
Other than that its the same mechanics that have always been around, people are just taking better advantage of it. Welcome to eve, yes the vast majority of people in eve are beyond stupid, but even a child with down-syndrome learns something once in awhile... Cheers.
P.S. xolve, Should I hold the pod? |
