Hey all.
i just came back to eve after a long break and wants to get started on level 4 missions. i have been trying to get a setup with desent dps but im mostly focusing on my tank becaues i got a friends that i can do missions with and he can do the dps. i have found 2 setups that both looks nice but one is alot more expensive then the other.
setup nr. 1:
High: 8x 1400mm Howitzer II Med: 1x Gist X-type X-large shield booster 1x Shield Boost Amplifier II 3x Active hardeners II 1x Invulnerability Field II
Low: 2x Gyro II 2x Cap Flux Coil II
nr 2.
High: 8x 1400mm Howitzer II Med: 1x Pith X-type large shield booster 1x Shield Boost Amplifier II 3x Active hardeners II 1x Invulnerability Field II
Low: 2x Gyro II 2x Cap Flux Coil II
now as you can see the only real diffrense is my shield booster, im able to perma run both. with the X-large im getting just over 1200 defense in EFT and with the large booster im getting just under 800 defense. now its easy to see the X-large is better but it cost dobbel the price of my large booster and that alot of money.
now my 2 questions is: 1. is the X-large booster worth the extra money or will 800 defense be more then i need in level 4 missions? 2. Will it serve me better to use 1200mm artillery or even AC in level 4 missions? (im not sure what range ill be fighting, with out AB and all)

2 gyros on a mael makes me sad
if you are going to do missions with a friend there are no need at all for a perma tank tbh (unless you have a unstable internet connection), 2 BS will gank the **** out of any lvl 4 mission I have ever seen.
since I can survive AE bonus room with a t2 tanked raven both tanks looks a bit of a overkill to me.
ACs vs artys? use both (not in the same mission tho ) some mission is best done with ACs some with atrys.
try with an all t2 tank first and see how well your tank is holding before you start spending stupid amount of isk on the tank. you might find that nice hardeners or a shield boost amp is all you need /seb
Edit: a lg crystal set might also be a good option ----- Never knock on Death's door; ring the doorbell and run (he hates that) |

okay thanks for the info.
never really done any level 4 missions so i have little idear what kind of damage ill be taking =) also im a fan of perma run becaues i tend to go afk alot (and becaues ima an old armor tank), i cant perma run a tech 2 X-large becaues of the high cap usage and a tech 2 large only gives me just over 400 defense. granted this is with 3 of each resistance type exept exp. ill ofc switch depending on what ships ill be fighting.

Edited by: Galan Undris on 03/02/2008 13:51:17 I wouldn't bother with any cap mods when running a Pith booster, the cap/sheild ratio you get with those on a mealstrom is fantastic and you really only need to run a couple of cycles once in a while with an X-type on there. Both setups are very overkill.
I run this tank on mine: 1x Pith A-Type XL 2x Inv. II 2x Hardeners 1x Republic Fleet 100MN AB
All damage and tracking mods in lows, rarely under 50% cap any lvl 4.
What I'd do is go for a slightly less insanely expensive booster (like the Pith A or B type) and rather put the rest towards RF/Domination gyros as you'll be tight on CPU with that setup.
Tanking level 4s aren't really hard once you can use T2.
