Not that this is CAOD-worthy, but I had to reply. This has been one of the worst Super Bowl games in memory. Such sloppy play. Nothing impressive happened so far. ___________________

lackluster first half and third quarter imo, but the 4th quarter i think is what we expected out of the entire game. VERY good Q4 and congrats to the Giants and their fans.

I wanted Giants to win, Pats have had their time, but seriously, I was dissapointed as hell with this game. Glad they won, but don't feel they deserved it at all. I almost had friends and family convinced that all the players were spotted out last night partying and getting drunk. With they way they were playing, you would think they all had hangovers... ___________________

its a game of 4 15 minute quarters that takes 4 hours to play , cant let the poor lads get too tired now can we ? .
have to have the obligatory breaks for the players to get their hourly intake of mcdonanlds and depp fried chiccken.
everybody has a single role , so a team of 11 actualy comprises of 45-60 players ( they did try teach players how to catch then run with a ball , but this was beyond the capability of the players ) , so 1 player will catch the ball , game gets stopped , ball is given to a runner , he runs for 10 yards , game is stopped , then ball given to another player for the nezt step , etc etc
nobody really knows why the word foot is in the name of the game as there is not much kicking involved . ( os skill )

while the great majority of his post is definitely geared to jest about american football, I have to agree with the last statement that in that game there isn't that much of foot in ball work, on the contrary of the football that most of us europeans know about (commonly known to the americans as "soccer"). ---

Edited by: Schani Kratnorr on 04/02/2008 08:59:43 They cut my cable on thursday, so I didn't get to watch. I am not entirely PO'ed though, as I fell asleep before the game started anyway (EU timezone).
Anyone smacktalking NFL should try playing it to get a sense of the strategic elements to the game. The mix of finesse and brute force required to play. The breaks in play allow for a much more tactical game compared to most other sports. I find that the struggle for field-posession and guesswork on the part of coaches very engaging.
Watching (AND enjoying) NFL is for EVE fleet commanders Watching soccer is for those who enjoy mining
However, the commercialisation of the NFL game has however gone too far for my european taste. It has reached a point where it actually detracts from the entertainment value IMO.

What are you saying ppl? Watch a bit more Coppa Africa and Coppa America and then deside which sport is more brutal. At soccer you just have to wait 90 minutes before the fun beggins :)

I wonder why it is that all the muscle fatties in the NFL haven't been hit with charges of steroid abuse.
Everytime a baseball players gets accused of using steroids, they say "he looks like a football player".

There are so many advert breaks the coaches had to do something to keep the players focused. So talking tactics just stops the boredom for the players, however, it doesnt help the rest of us from the brain failure caused by breaks after EVERY play. Dwi Cymraig According to the Pastafarian belief system, pirates are "absolute divine beings" and the original Pastafarians. Their image as "thieves and outcasts" is misinformation. |

When you actually use the foot in contact with the ball for more than 3% of the gametime you can call it football. Now it's just roidrage in costumes.

You can make fun of the pads American Football players wear all you want but they are quite necessary. In the early 20th century so many football players were getting killed (literally killed not to mention horrendous injuries) that the president of the United States threatened to ban the game. That threat forced the rules to be changed such as banning the flying wedge (which IIRC is banned in Rugby too) as well as starting them on the path to better protection for the players. As it is since 1930 over 1,000 people have been killed via injuries attributed to playing American Football (and again that does not include countless "lesser" injuries). Hardly a game of tiddleywinks.
Pads and all believe me you'd know it and feel it in the morning (assuming you can even get up afterwards) when you get run over by a 300+ pound lineman who is also wearing armor. Put on some football pads and run headlong into a brick wall and you get some of the idea.
