Aint the first post and certainly not the last post on Jove, there lil pocket of space is still sitting there but the question remains how to integrate them into EVE in a meaningful way ?
You could give them to the Mission runners and let people blast overpowered Jove complexes and missions till their hearts content. "imho low risk simple give people something new to look at and shoot, just like the drone hive ship something to blast and think dang wish I could capture one. However at the end of the day ultimately un-forfilling
You could leak out their technology in some difficult and elaborate way allowing people to fly the very coveted 8/8/8 slot jove ships for a very heavy price. "Risky, jove tech is technically much better than current tech, it would be hella expensive and apart from a few new ships would be more like cool expensive faction tech that you see on contract and pine over, Jove Frig vs Fully T2 fitted Frig would be like Fully Tech 2 fitted Frig vs T1 Frig. At the end of the day it just widens the PvP gap and would require raising the mission bar to prevent misson runners from feeling like Jove ships made things a cake walk.
You could go all out and release Jove as a playable race and make it so only jove can fly and use Jove tech. "Very Risky but ultimately possibly a good way to go. As it stands 3-4 year old char with 30-60mil plus SP are close to the top end of what can be done with skill effects on ships giving these guys Jove ships would just make the gap bigger. However, allowing people to start a new Jove character, would really shake things up all of a sudden everyone starts a Jove alt which is the only way to use jove ships, the high end chars are still better but they cannot use the Jove tech. Would Jove char surpass high end characters ship stenghth in 1v1 PvP initially no, mid term no, in another 3-4 years maybe. Jove skill progression would be slow, however ships costs and availbity would be closer to Tech 1 than Tech 2. Would a Jove frig beat a fully tech 2 fitted frig in the first year after release, probably not after that possibly. Of course by then Tech 3 starts coming out and it becomes a an arms race, jove skill training vs the power of high end char wallets to field fully tech 3 fitted ships with, Isk would always be ahead of Jove training but the gap would be forever reducing.
And its not like the Veterans cant start up a new character either"
But alas such a can of worms how to do it without the forums melting down covered with Cheese from all the whine.
Thoughts ?

In case you didn't read all the post hehehe
here's just an interesting snippet
Releasing Jove could create a Jove vs non-Jove arms race.
After relase Jove for the first 1-2 years are beaten by similar T2 ships/mods, (Jove ship power heavily Dependant on Jove skills, jove skill training is slow but jove ships are cheaper than Tech 2 and potentially even NPC seeded with BPO's which would require manufacture by Jove char as well) As Jove begins to surpass Tech 2, Tech 3 is released so high end non-jove char push ahead again, Jove continue to train and it becomes an arms race of Jove tech/training vs non Jove tech. Jove may even come out with their own Jove Tech 2 but it would only be built by Jove inventors and Manufactures.
Normal Tech would mostly be ahead but more expensive than jove alternatives, would also always be more variety in normal tech than in jove tech.

And that was about as constructive as he posted... Niiiice.
First, it has been stated before that the Jove will not be a playable race. THough I do agree it would be nice to see something happening with them, to bring them into the game more. Just not sure how.
Second, wrong forum. Features and Ideas area would be more appropriate. *** "Some would call me a Demon. Others, a Vampire. But if the truth be told, I'm a child of the moon and a Goddess among men." Free pint of blood for the Dev who agrees |

I'd love to see a playable Jove race with Jove-specific ships and modules. More depth, variety and background fluff = win.
Unfortunately, the way EVE's character generation and skill advancement systems work would make implementing a new race problematic at best. Veterans already raised a bit of a stink over the newer Asian-based bloodlines, so just imagine what would happen if CCP introduced a whole new race where you had to start over from scratch to belong to it (and use its ships and modules).
It's doable, but they'd have to do something like... allowing everyone to keep their current skill levels but pick a new race / bloodline / gender / portrait / even name, with base attributes changing accordingly.
That would be an implementation nightmare. ________________

I would love to see the introduction of Jove items from new areas of space that would occur from npc 'drops'.
The skills required to fly jove ships would (if I were coding) require the skills of all four races to run. Hence, if you wanted to fly a jove battleship, you'd need the frig, cruiser,bs skills trained up for all 4 races to actually fly the ship.
It would be a huge drive to diversify skills & benefit those who have already done so, but not overly specialized in a specific area.
I would also love to have the option of taking a bpo & adding a low/med/high slot on a bpc for tech3 ships. That would be really really really cool.

Well the issue is three fold:
1) Playable Jove race: The race has an illness that is killing them off - not a good idea for a playable race when you have to give it a time frame.
2) Flyable Jove ships: Its a balance issue really - I mean they are a proper race like the four races we have now - and balancing those four is hard enough without introducing Jove super-ships.
3) The devs have already stated they would not introduce the race - and while the ships exist, there is a reason why they are not flown by the great majority. They are extrememly powerful. -----------

I don't doubt CCP would love to introduce Jove as a playable race just as the current 4 races but I'm not very sure that it'll be defendable, economicly. It'll take a ****load of work to come up with, design and balance a new, fifth race. The question is if the gain from doing so will justify the cost.
I, personally, highly doubt it.

I think we could see Jove coming to play a bigger part in EVE as NPCs and CCP or ISD controlled event characters, but I don't think they'll be introduced as a playable race.
With factional warfare coming (hopefully), I'll be interested to see where CCP take the story of EVE. I think all out war between the empires would require some major gameplay changes and would make EVE and even harsher game, so I wouldn't discount the possiblity of some sort of Jovian intervention.
I hate signatures with no distinct break from the body of the post. |

Anyway, for curious people, the Society of Conscious Thought ships have been redone for Trinity (the other Jove Ships Eidolon/Wraith/Etc have not)
Also, in the past the Jove have played parts as NPC characters, Devs, and ISD members.

Edited by: Maraude Fury on 04/02/2008 06:03:06 The "Simple" thing to do would make plot/storyline that would open up jove space.
"Almost all the Jove people have disapeared. Their borders are no longer defended by their ships. Their stations are open for use, but VERY expensive docking rights. Please go to XXX system, and have a look around."
this would open the players up to a lvl 1 Jove agent. Slowly working them up to lvl 5 jove agents.
At each mission level, give a SINGLE Jove Frigate skill book somewhere along the agent line. But make it a drawback that since the Jove ships are largely mysteries tech wise, you can only get a fraction of the power out of the ship.
During lvl 2 missions give a single Jove Cruiser skill book.
During lvl 3's a single Jove BC Skill book.
During lvl 4's a single Jove BS skill book.
During lvl 5's a single Jove Dread/carrier skill book.
This way you could make them equivilent to current Frigs/Cruisers/BS's and so on, but LOOK like Jove ships. Give them crazy skill requirements..EG Jove frigate, that's as good as Interceptors, require all 4 faction frigate skills to lvl 5, same with Jove Cruisers takeing all 4 racial Cruisers to 5 and so on.
This would mean they'd be wanted, as they WOULD be better then T1 ships, but not enough that's it's overpowering.
EG:
Jove Frigate as powerful as an AF or Inty. Jove Cruiser as powerful as a HAC. Jove BC as powerful as a Command ship. Jove BS's be more powerful then T1 BS's. Better then say faction or Tier 3 BS's..
make it something that isn't going to be easy, that 2 month old players can't get(Gives a little more "end game content") and make them have some teeth, so they're going to be wanted for pvp, as they WILL be better then T1 ships. but not better(Or just slightly better) then t2 ships.
This way it would open up Jove space for use as a 5th empire area, and logically, "soon" we'd see new low sec, and then new 0.0 regions open up on the other side of Jove space.
Then the Jove could make a return some time down the road.

Personally as a general rule I favour broadening content not deepening it.
Implementing "super ships" or "Jedi" type characters basically creates a formalised endgame for players to shoot for which I think runs counter to that. EVE RELATED CONTENT |
