Hi,
I am a bit noobish to the game, and was told by someone to get a secure can to mine into. I bought a Giant Secure Container, popped it in my cargo hold and started to mine into it. Someone came by and told me it was unlocked, I told him it couldn't because I set a password on it and he proved it by taking from it.
Now which container is it that I need to keep people from taking my stuff?
Do I need the Audit log one or what?
Thank you in advance for any kind responses.

You need to ANCHOR it first.

I was afraid of that as the only reasonable anchor spot is like 30K away from the asteroids.
Makes the secure can useless.
Thank you though for your help.

You will not find a highsec belt where you can anchor a container these days.

Anyway, if you are serious about mining then you shouldn't be needing to use GSCs for long as the ships yield soon outstrip there hold capacity. When the war comes, caldari are going to kick some galleante and minmatar rear! |

I just find it annoying that any person can and does com by and takes all my ore I worked for and there is not really anything I can do as a new player to stop it.
A little disappointing in this game.

Sure there is ! Don't jetcan mine Of course, this does bring the mining speed down a bit, with constant warping, docking, unloading, undocking and warping back, but it's 100% thief-proof. That, or have a friend in a hauler right next to you, so that he picks up your ore as soon as you drop it... a lot less risk, but also ties up another person, so, again, it's "meh".
Using jetcan mining, you are increasing your potential income, but also increasing the risk of getting nothing. The perfect balance. Risk <-> Reward.

Well, if you think that...
a) Go play a different game.
b) Lifes not fair
c) Mine a different way, a different system with less players and more belts.
d) When I was a new player I had nothing worth stealing. When the war comes, caldari are going to kick some galleante and minmatar rear! |

Actually the risk seems a lot higher then the reward, but I have after thinking about it, decided that this is what I like about this game over all the other MMO's I have played.
Maybe ill just make getting ore esier on my self and start taking others too.

Until you get a hulk with cargo optimization rigs and cargohold extender II's. Then the only thing with a bigger cargohold is an Itty V. And makes the warp-unload-undock-warp-mine gig worth it.
I love jetcan mining. It's an excuse for me to not afk mine! Whoooooo!

Or simply move away from the high-population systems when mining. There's plenty of high-sec space where you can have the belts all for yourself for hours.

The best advice:
- Go find a quiet system (use the map and set stats by number of players in system) that has no more than 2 ppl in it and has a station
Jetcan mine to your heart's content--nobody to steal your ore.
I do it all the time and never ever got robbed

i have 2 accounts and just mine with my main mining character into a jetcan and have my hauler sitting there picking it up as it goes into the can. Pretty safe, i mostly get people trying to flip the can bookmark but i just ignore them.
Finding a quieter system helps too.

Best suggestion I can make, is for you to join a player corporation, that way you can at least assemble a quick force to depart the guy of his ship. ______________________________________

As Yargo pointed out, the most secure, speedy mining you can do is in a Hulk with 2 T2 expanders and 2 cargo rigs. You can mine about 2/3 a full jetcan worth of stuff without having to dock up, and it's safe from ore-thieves because the ore go right from the rocks to your cargohold. Of course it takes a lot of training and a sizeable chunk of change to do, but it is totally worth it in the end, because if you have a friend or an alt that can haul for you, you can fit 2 MLU IIs on instead of expanders and can mine like a madman. ______________ Eloquence belongs to the conqueror.

Make a note of who owns the cans that are already anchored at the belt. Find the ones that don't have many members and declare war on them. Then go out and destroy their cans and anchor yours in their place. Then cancel the war.

Its fun looking for that spot where you can anchor your GSCs. Its like a whole mini-game in itself. Imagine a 3D version of minelayer, except you dont blow up.

If you get blown up anchoring in high sec, something has gone very very wrong.

You should not mine into secure containers. They don't hold very much. Jettison the ore and fill up that container, then come back in an industrial ship (which should have containers in the cargo hold to maximize capacity) and bring the ore to a station (or better yet mine with a friend). This is called jetcan mining.
This should not be done in the busy systems where ore thieves hang out. Space is big, go find a nice quiet system and mine to your heart's content. You will most likely never encounter an ore thief if you are off the beaten path (and I don't mean go into low security or 0.0 to mine, unless you are with a group).
