I used to do missions in an abaddon before I moved into 0.0 full time and therefore havnt had much mission experience in a bit (I seem to remember tanking fine with a single reper in an abaddon). I have also just sold my only alt for a lot of isk. That is why. help would be appreciated :D

The abaddon hasn't been in the game that long. Really not much has changed since you moved to 0.0 for a bit.

Yes but I used to have 4 t2 hards on an abaddon and use pulses, the pala will be a radical change and investment for me and i just wanted to know if a single rep with 3 x hards should do the job adequatley enough.

Im currently using an Abaddon with 1 t2 rep and 3 t2 hardeners, also using tachs and never had any problems. When i get my Paladin im planning to tank it the same way. Show your support Save EVE TV! |

For most NPCtypes / missions 3 hardeners on a Paladin (with a very good repper) should do the trick. However, you might get into problems with some, mainly angel/gist type of missions, as they do such a large variety of damage, chief among them explosive, while your lasers are a bit less effective because of their high resists to em and therm.
Either try to avoid those or try one with a friend (for additional safety) to get a feeling for your ship.

4 tachs and a repper are no problem. 2 CCC rigs and cap rechargers in mids are enough. Your cap might die after 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the quality of your modules, but that should be more than enough to kill the high damage dealers so you can start turning off your repper for a few cycles.

Switch hardeners depending on mission, usually use a Megathron for Angels, its just more fun with lasers :)
Need the named rep in to fit the last tach but ive never had a problem tanking, it runs cap stable with everything running (+99 -98.2). The Paladin can do the same but have a med free for a webber or tracking computer and still be stable.

Cheers for all the help guys. So the consensus is that a single rep and 3 core x hards is fine? What about the bonus rooms? Will i kill the ships fast enough to sustain myself with tachs, 3 faction heatsinks and max gunnery skills (bar spec 5)?

Edited by: Leandro Salazar on 05/02/2008 17:57:21 Lets just say that if a single LAR with 3 CoreX hards is NOT enough, you are doing something wrong. Like that fellow who does Angels with lasers for 'fun'... ugh
About as fun as hammering a nail through my kneecap.
Basically if you have to fit exp or kin hardeners on your Paladin, your agent is incompatible with your ship. And there are no missions with bonus rooms that should be run in a laser boat.
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |

So what abount missions against minmatar, drones, mercs and the one with two factions and the two accel gates? I remember getting those from a lvl 4 amarr navy agent and i can also remember one with a bonus room i couldnt get into. So are saying i shouldnt even attempt these? That sucks if im going to spend 2bil+ on a ship tbh Mabey pulses and a duel rep tank would be the order of the day rather than tachs?

Drones have EM and therm as their weakest resistances too, so they are perfect. Mercs are reasonably vulnerable as well. I tank both of those with EANMs though, not kin or exp hards (add in an extra therm for Zor). The only mission with bonus room that Amarr agents gave was angel extravaganza. It *could* be finished in an Abaddon too, but in that time you would finish 4 other missions, so totally not worth it. And it is out of the mission pool due to a bug currently. And except for Darkanas, minnie faction ships drop to lasers good enough as well.
And really, those missions not against Sansha, Blood and Drones are maybe 10% of the pool that I get. If you agent gives you more, maybe it is time to switch. Or better yet, get a Ravenkind ship to switch to for those few missions if you absolutely have to do them (I usually decline even though I DO have a spare Golem for them). And for the othe 90% of missions, a pimped Nightmare/Paladin is worth every penny, at least if you fit it for proper gank. If you are just gunna semi-afk permatank, I would not bother to spend that money though.

On the point of gank, for the free med what would you reccomend, a domi web or a shadow ser tracking computer? I can see the tracking computer helping against bses but sitting there for 20 mins while my drones kill the frigs and HACS isnt my idea of fun. In your experience what is better on the pala?

Assuming you change your hardeners according to the mission type, then yes, it will be plenty enough. The only thing I can think off that might stress your tank would be a premature spawn trigger in a blockade mission. ------------------------------------------

Cheers for that shadow ill keep that in mind, so that would meen a web over a tracking computer then? Oh and couldnt you have just elimenated the bses to cut down the dps?

Blockade you can manage to spawn too many BS.. even for a paladin Tank.. then you best kill the tacklers and warp out. 10-12 1 mill bounty BS are challenging.
Paladin with 3 hardeners and a TS EANM can do enemies abound 5/5 fine. (DB LAR)

So is the blockade the only amarr navy mission I need to worry about?
