I am posting this in general because I am not sure it would survive in the CAOD. Most official Forums for an MMO are a place to gather information about various aspects of the game. This is in general true about alot of the EVE forums. CAOD is the exception. Post a question in there about something and be prepared to be flamed. CAOD is full of epeen wielding Forum trolls. They post with alt's frequently. I know that monitoring a forum like that is difficult just from the sheer number and speed of posts. Why anyone has to post FIRST! is beyond me and can lead to a page full of 2nd 3rd. etc. My suggestion is EVE go to a delayed post. Review the posts before they are published. Limit the number of posts per day and hour. Certainly no one person needs to post 167 times in 11 hours.
The smack talk alone in CAOD is ridiculous. Some of it by people I know. Very sad.

I strongly recommend making CAOD forum automatically list all 3 characters of the poster. Like right after poster's name, corp, alliance, also include space for 2 other character names.
Of course this won't help against 2nd accounts, but still, it's a big step forward

The alts are not a problem. They have to obey by forum rules just as much as anyone else, and - as far as I know - if CCP issues a forum ban it will affect all the posters accounts. Now, I am not sure since I have never been banned myself, but afaik the rule is: one particular account dont get banned - players are. And if a forum alt is breaking the rule, his main will pay for it too. I think..
But I agree. CAOD needs thorough cleansing. Maybe there should be easier getting temp bans from this forum?

The Goonies do post alot..but so do other people. I like the idea of posting all 3 character names. This will reduce a great deal of e-peen waving.

No it won't because the majority of spam comes from goons who use their mains anyway.

have repeat rulebreakers/serious offenders see the consequences hit their character/account ingame, & not just getting a forum ban (which is frankly just a slap on the wrist at best), & ppl might not be so quick to post the rubbish they do

Simple COAD fix:
Only directors of corps with more than 10 members can post in there.

The thing that keeps me baffled is the fact that you have alts who again and again break the rules by trolling, flaming, real life analogies etc etc. Yet they are still happily posting away.
Do they even GET warnings and bans? Or have CCP simply given up on CAOD, like most of the people who went there for actual content did long ago?

Huron has a solid point here, but i think that there is one more reson.Just like isk farmers are (Bad) has anyone noticed less off them.I think not.People post the caod with questional content every day.How many are banned from eve daily.Im sure not many.If ccp really wanted to stop these bannable offences they could but they wont.If the banned players they would first lose players and you know that ccp loves to talk about how many players they have.Second less accounts mean less isk for them, the dollar (isk) allways wins.Eve is a fun game dont get me wrong but you really have to **** off a dev/mod to get perma banned. They look the other way with isk farmers. [/url Take back your existence or die like a punk.

well, thanks for altering the quote...
on a honest note: coad is fine as it is, alliances (and especially their members) need a place to express themselves (omeegas signature is wrong, f1-f8 is NOT enough). people have just to learn to ignore bad trolls like moon kitten. i mean, everybody with a sane mind enjoys good troll attempts, because they're fun. bad ones just waste our time, but, to honor (lol) the coad posters, most of the bad trolls get flamed to oblivion.
what i would like though, is a more direct interaction between ISD and the alliances, so that they could write war reports without bias.

Edited by: Bund on 05/02/2008 05:04:06 It's a pure PVP game, and CAOD is the only place where players can talk to each other about small and large scale PVP without resorting to outside forums. Why would behavior in tactics in that forum be any different than in game?

Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam costs the sender very little to send -- most of the costs are paid for by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.
There are two main types of spam, and they have different effects on Internet users. Cancellable Usenet spam is a single message sent to 20 or more Usenet newsgroups. (Through long experience, Usenet users have found that any message posted to so many newsgroups is often not relevant to most or all of them.) Usenet spam is aimed at "lurkers", people who read newsgroups but rarely or never post and give their address away. Usenet spam robs users of the utility of the newsgroups by overwhelming them with a barrage of advertising or other irrelevant posts. Furthermore, Usenet spam subverts the ability of system administrators and owners to manage the topics they accept on their systems.
Email spam targets individual users with direct mail messages. Email spam lists are often created by scanning Usenet postings, stealing Internet mailing lists, or searching the Web for addresses. Email spams typically cost users money out-of-pocket to receive. Many people - anyone with measured phone service - read or receive their mail while the meter is running, so to speak. Spam costs them additional money. On top of that, it costs money for ISPs and online services to transmit spam, and these costs are transmitted directly to subscribers.
One particularly nasty variant of email spam is sending spam to mailing lists (public or private email discussion forums.) Because many mailing lists limit activity to their subscribers, spammers will use automated tools to subscribe to as many mailing lists as possible, so that they can grab the lists of addresses, or use the mailing list as a direct target for their attacks.

I can see your point that the only official forum for you to post about PVP in the 0.0 wars is in CAOD.(Not all of it is 0.0 wars but most to be fair.) However this could also be solved by creating a new topic Called War and Peace or something original like that. Or they could do as I suggested and use delayed posting to get rid of the spam. I guess I shouldn't have used the word "SPAM". So instead of spam insert "Flames, nonesense, insults, First, LOL, Muppet, Tin Foil, etc."

coad is a little game-within-a-game, and we should be thankful that alliance forum cheerleaders have a place to bukakke themselves without ruining the rest of the forums.
goons seem to be the worst offenders but just about all sides have had their moments in the past. I think goons are more visible now because there are simply more of them.
anyway, it's just a waste of time going there unless you want to engage in that sort of thing.
if you want actual battle information, try the shc gbbs forum. they moderate heavily and even then it's pretty ugly, to the point that calmdown deleted gbbs for a couple of weeks recently.
I do find it interesting that even the most level headed players turn into total *******s when talking about battles with the enemy. i guess eve requires so much commitment that it's difficult to not have yr blood boil when so much is at stake.
what I *would* like to see is a dedicated battle reports forum where daily updates are given about changes in Sov, tower numbers, kill statistics etc for major conflicts. These would be posted by CCP themselves and no players cold create topics or reply to topics. I do think that would be good. I find it hard to believe CCP couldn't pretty much automate that.
