Just wondering with Over-heating what kinds of duration bonus's I can get. Say I have a Rifter 3xturrets with a off-line salvager inbetween. Also I have moderate missle skills so trying to guestimate if theres a reason to actually use the heatsink.

Corstaad:
HeatSinks are only for lasers. It you are using projectile weapons (howitzers and autocannons) like you should be on a rifter, then you want "gyrostabilizers".
Overheating is a completely different situation. Overheating modules allows additional bonus', but damage the modules. SHould only be used in extreme situations as the heat really starts to build up if you overheat an entire rack
FYI: gyros and heatsinks increase damage and lower rate of fire

He's obviously not talking about the module, but the process of offlining a module to mitigate heat damage. And it helps. A lot (not enough for me to turn down a rocket launcher personally tho).

Ok I thought after the rework of over-heating they applied heatsinks. Wasn't it something like longer duration before a module destroyed it self when you put a off line module in the rack?

By the way all theorycraft here, one day off heat.

Yes. Heat damage is considerably reduced if an offline module is in the rack.

Thanks Kary, what kinda duration bonus you think you'd get out of 3xTurrets and one off-line?

Damage from heat is afaik chance-based, so there's no real "duration bonus." It just reduces the chance of you taking heat damage (or the amount of damage, one or the other) which then by extension results in an overall increase in the amount of time you can overheat. __________________________________

1. Heat damage is a dice roll at every end of a cycle. 2. The chance to take damage increases with the heat status of the rack, nearly linear if i remember correctly. 3. Empty slots or offline modules modify this chance like this:
- active modules in rack / number of slots in rack
For a rifter with three AC and one offline module, this is a 25% reduction of the chance of taking heat damage. 4. Fitting an offline module has the advantage over an empty slot of absorbing generated damage.

Extra overloading time is almost never worth supplimentary dps. If you can fit the rocket launcher, do it.
