Economy doesn't need ISK sinks that much, because it appears that material gets produced at a higher rate then ISK does (obviously), which means that the ISK surplus generated is necessary for us not to have deflation (which is bad).
At any rate, it doesn't make sense to pay the crews anything then a very very paltry sum. As I said, 10K ISK in EvE is a huge sum - buys you a shuttle with 1K to spare, a relatively big technologically advanced ship with warp capability. Petty change for a pod pilot, but a enormous sum for expendeable crewmembers? ;)
Bonuses, even small, will absolutely be used on the very pimped setups, or setups which are min/maxing a few attributes (think speedfits, tank fits) which people already whine about. We don't need that.

that's why making them a fuel "biomass" would be cool.
and maybe if you **** them off to much they run up to the deck where your pod is and they break it open and kill you.

I like the concept of crew, but instead of generated crew, on the bigger ships i would like to see the option of multiple pilots in the one ship, operating guns/piloting etc... I refuse to have a sig before I have a face |

This comes up a lot, and its pretty simple. The backstory clearly states there are crew the ships, the pod pilots simply do not think or care about them.

I know! Let's over-complicate the game with needless features, that serve no purpose, and implement them in the typical inelegant way. Beautiful!

I want to thank all the people who added construtive ideas, but it does look like there is some interest.
To the people that are saying. "All I want is another bonus" Whats wrong with that, the idea is to add more depth to the feel of the universe. If you include it without some bouns everyone will complain about micro managing.
Myself, I like the idea of having a few key personal that I can mold and it would be cool to have something for not losing your ship all the time. (yes a bouns for Care bears)

Carebears ;)
Adding more bonuses != adding depth - if nothing, it makes for more maxed out setups, which we don't need in gameplay terms.
To have something for not losing your ship all the time means I have to do some NPC grinding for my ship to fully shine so I can pew-pew more effectively, what is just stupid really. Besides, it rewards ships that only partially engage (and run away if things don't go as expected) which is a valid tactic, but shouldn't be rewarded any more then it is now in contrast to going up close and personal what 'bonuses for keeping your ship alive for a while' penalize.

Edited by: Xerpex on 08/02/2008 01:45:16 This is the least moronic idea for crews I have read. Adds personality to your ship, and pushes you to keep the long living ones for longer.
edit: It still has the potential for messing things up.

How about this. Get rid of all ship bonuses and replace them with crew members. Like for each ship type you get 1-2 additional crew slots. A frig class gets 1, destroyer gets 1 cruiser 2, BC 2 or 3 and so forth and so on. It gives the pilot the option of setting their own benefits, but you can have only on of any given crew. Example you can only have on engineer. Their effectiveness would be based on your current skills. On something like a titan they should be able to carry one of every type.
Tactical officer (drones/missiles)
Electronics officer (electronics) Engineering officer (engineering) Gunnery officer (guns) Communications officer (leadership) Navigator (navigation) Science officer (science/scanning) These guys/gals should also be like the rig slots. You pull them they are gone and you have to hire new ones. Also they should start out fairly low in their bonuses but increase with the more combat experience with a cap on their abilities.

I would think crew members would be useful as a cheaper form of rig. Make them cheaper than rigs, remove the penalties that rigs have, but decrease their bonuses by 2/3's (just like boosters and synth boosters). If there is a problem with ultra high bonuses with rigs and crew on the same ship, just stacking penalize them.
If it's true CCP doesn't want to add them because it increases the human element, then why do they want to add planetary control/colonization/conquest and ground combat? You're going to be annihilating MILLIONS of innocent people in massive land campaigns and orbital bombardments. I don't see how adding crewmembers can top that.
Synth boosters made drugs more accessible to the masses. Crew imo would make integrated ship bonuses (rigs) more accessible to the masses who don't have 15 mil (at least) to spend on one add-on.
If I had an Alt I would probably post with it... |

Originally by: Ron Bacardi I always wondered why the ships look like they have windows, when they all just have one pilot in a gooey pod.
That's because your ship does actually have a crew; even the pod-piloted ones.
Just my own opinion, but rigs should have been named "specialised crew" or something similar. Rig production should have been called "recruitment", or the like.
Still putting in the needed resources (and expenses) of creating an item that boosts certain capabilities... but setting it within the whole backstory universe.
Holy ****! I'm a mass murderer and I didn't even know it! I think I should go read the fiction now......

engines, warp drive, even the self distrut mechanism.
and then you can ransom then or just steal the ship :P
or leave them there until they get out or burn to death.
Here we observe the sociopathic space pirate in its native habitat, gorging on the flesh of its victims.

how about having crews be an issue only for battle ships and larger?
No bonuses, but just to allow cap ships to run like adding fuel?

Fallen Shadow, my dear. You often forget that the crew is drinking beer. Modern La-Dai or Creodon design makes use of Hampst0rz.
... they are very easy to feed and fit. Okay, sometimes after patches they'll spin the wheel. But my crew is pretty wonderful
