Gonna be attending Fanfest this year but all the people who i fly with in game are not going, so looks like i'm going it alone and defecating bricks that i'll be the one guy sitting at the bar alone.
So expect a random Scottish guy wandering around talking to you other attending people.
Anyone else going it alone?

I've spent valentine's day alone, but am too poor to fanfest.
Maybe next year. I look forward to watching fanfest footage and seeing a guy in a kilt with a bottle of whiskey staggering around, though.
If we distribute pictures of people, does that mean God can file copyright claims under SOPA? |

I've never in my life seen a Scotsman, an Irishman, a Russian, or an Aussie drinking alone.
Now, get them all drinking together at the same time, that would be something.

You know that they dont sell special brew or ****** at fanfest.
Also try not to get drunk and fight everyone. You will only let the side down
Otherwise if you want something to do while you're there count the virgins/despair.

I was contemplating how much it would cost to ship my rig to iceland and back and then thought it wasnt worth it if I couldnt insure my 3000 USD monitor which I KNOW will get thrown around and destroyed on the trip up there and back.

Cheap Tablet would be better but I havent afforded one yet, I would setup a booth in jita park for my corp and have people sketch them a ship on the spot.

I can tell you from first hand experience, that anything labeled "Fragile" going through any airport WILL be involved in a contact sport of some kind...
P.S. Anything that can be removed from luggage within 5 seconds, will be removed. My growing collection of carabiners is proof of this...

Just go down to the hotel bar and get talking to people. I went outside for a cigarette before bed on my first night last year, around midnight. I got talking to some random EVE players and suddenly it was 4am and my bottle of Grey Goose was 100% depleted.
And then it was 08:30 and I was meant to be driving my corpies around Reykjavik. I couldn't because I was still pissed.
Loads of Scottish go too, by the way :)

You could buy a cheap monitor for like a hundred bucks, and ship it there in its original package, which is designed for being handled rough. |

the first, and only year I went, I went alone... It was the 2009 fanfest, and I had the time of my life, met really cool people, had a blast, saw the city... even met a cute iceland girl at a cafe, she noticed my American accent and told me how she was going to move to California, why, this that, blah blah, she gave me her # but i didn't have service there so I couldn't get in contact with her, and wasn't ballsy enough to ask her to show me the city.... but the the city and people were great, the event was awesome, and the party at the end was the icing on the cake.
In the end, all I can say is... don't fret, understand you're experiencing a once in a lifetime opportunity, and go from there.... You'll have an amazing time....... and yea, lots and lots of alcohol. |
