I don't think anyone can seriously argue that self destructing in combat, so as to deprive your assailaints of a killmail, is anything other than lame.
There can be no reason other than to deprive them of a killmail, to self destruct in mid combat.
That being the case, is there any good reason why a warp disruptor (of whatever kind) should not interfere with the electronics which operate the self destruct sequence? i.e. You can't initiate self destruct whilst scrambled.
Thoughts?

Self-destructing as to make sure the agressor gets no loot - kinda makes sense to me that some might consider self-destructing instead of having their enemies enjoying their juicy leftovers... --

If you are killing someone only for a killmail, you should be playing Counterstrike.
Also, self-destructing deprives the attackers of any loot. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

Sometimes this backfires. I jumped into a 15 man camp of the local antipirates. A quick look at their gang make up showed mostly BS and CS so i made a run for it in my sac (not nano). I quickly burn out of weapons range of all but the cruise ravens but they have a nano cyclone keeping me scrammed and its slightly faster than my sac.
I start shooting the cyclone and quickly burn through its shields and he activates the self destruct. HE continues to chase but e keeps running out of cap and dropping out of weapons range and then coming back into it and so after a while hes at 10% structure and runs off. By this time i have used up the 3 cap boosters i had started with and we are far enough out for people from the camp to warp on top of us so i make my escape.
Seconds later i see in local "who exploded?". Turns out guy didnt turn off his self destruct :D Shame i dont get a mail but it was worth it for the laughs it gave me.

I do like collecting kill mails however the kill itself is a kill. If you force him to self destruct then you have achieved your goal. Snds like someone SD'd when you were attacking them and didnt get the spoils of his Dmail ---------------

I would have no problems with someone self-destructing who felt they were obviously going to lose.
Killmails are worthless, unless you're on a merc contract that pays per kill. Mostly they are just for epeen wagging. Not to say I don't try to swing mine around every now and then myself.
If I was pinned down, unable to escape, hopelessly out-gunned/numbered, and was certain I had zero chance of backup arriving (even if it's too late to save me, at least I can keep the enemy around long enough for backup to engage and take some out), then I might pull the pin too. I could care less about the kill/lossmail, I'm just wanting to make sure they don't get all the shiny mods that may drop.
To be honest, the only situation I could think of this happening is if I was in a nicely tanked Drake, but against a decent battleship with no stargate in sight and no backup online. I might survive long enough then to actually take advantage of it.

I'm surprised people would consider a self destruct sequence during combat. I picture two scenarios, A: I am currently scrambled by one or two individuals, and have a chance of escaping, or B: I have been scrambled by a 10-20 man fleet that would annihilate my tank before I could say, "oh snap."
I use the self-destruct to collect on waining insur- ... I mean, perfectly legitimized methods of recouping costs upon ships with little or no worth. =D

How can the "Last great act of defiance" be considered lame?
I mean you DID defeat the enemy, right? Eve is more than killboards and E-Peen.

Some people find it amusing collecting as many kills as possible. That is allowed by the system.
However, therein lies a reason to rob someone from the killmain.
Both are lame though. Killing people should be for a reason outside the killmail, and selfdestructing should be for other reasons then rob a player for killmails. But we live in a lame world, so this is what we get.
Untill people find joy in combat for other reasons then killmails, I am sure this wont change. Not sure it would change then either. Cheating the enemy for the murder on them is a obious pleasure.
To be honest, killboards are in many ways ruining the ways the game should have been played. without paying to much attentions to the killmail! Now people live breath and die by it! And that is why I think CCP have not introduced a global and official killboard.

Because if you know you are doomed and there is nothing you can do about it, which is often the case in EvE PvP, then the only one little thing you can do to spite your assailents is to self destruct. Why give them anything for murdering you? Why even give them the killmail? +++++++++++++++ I saw the Sign...!

I think self destruct should be a legitimate tactic, -as long as the person self destructing get no insurance payout for his loss.
Self destructing and keeping the insurance is stupid, its like burning down your own house for the insurance money, the insurance company wouldn't allow that would they

Oh god. AGREED. My old corp/alliance, so many killmail *****s. I'd fly things like ECM-only Blackbirds which would actually help the gang immensely and give up killmails, while many of them nerfed their overall effectiveness just to make sure they got on as many KM's as possible. Pathetic.

Yeah that's what I thought, all this talk about them not dropping loot has been frankly very confusing. If it were true self-destructing would be genius and an excellent tactic.
