I've being doing missions with the Gallente and I'm up to around 7.0 with the Federation Navy. But I'm not sure if I should be worried about my Amarr and Caldari standings, they are still fine at the moment thanks to Diplomacy(3/5). But do I need to go do some missions for those guys at some point to keep standings balanced.
Also I remember hearing something about 'Faction Warfare' being introduced at some point, any idea how that will affect things? Would the supply of Amarr ships and equipment dry up in Gallente regions if the factions were at war?
Finally would the Amarr missions/space be much different, might be nice to have a change.

Make sure to get a Corp up to 9 in Amarr. Then you can always go back and run missions to fix any standings you may have ruined.

Getting a high standing with a corp within a certain faction is good foresight, but afaik if you drop to -2 faction with that particular faction, it is indeed now meaningless. At that point, you will need to go and do missions with the 'sister' faction in order to pull things out of the fire. If you can't even do that, you're really screwed and need outside help in the form of people completing missions and sharing standings with you. Even then, I'm not sure that will raise your faction in certain cases, so make sure you don't get too low if you can avoid it.
