It's not fair, I wish we could discuss religion and politics on these forums as something has just really wound me up

You could find some forums where you CAN discuss these things and direct people there in the hope that at least some people follow you to have some sort of discussion...

It's completely true though, I had one about anominous that stayed for 26 hours or so, the spamfest from a month back there were ads there for 5 hours.

It sucks that the random trolls that jump on any political/religious discussion and turn it into a flame-hate war ruin it for the rest of us.

Take a look at COAD and see how ppl can be close minded , ego strokers , shallow and pure trolling and you will realise the great wisdom in not allowing political and religious disscussions

Actually we have had several discussions here that moved into politics or religion that I thought were great. The threads stayed clean and while people disagreed they maintained their cool. It only went "bad" when this one guy decided to go on a crusade to stamp out any threads on politics/religion. He was a self styled EVE Forum vigilante (near as I could tell he had no issue with anything said, just that it was being said at all).
Shame too, some good discussion occurred but of course the Mods had to do their duty once they sniffed it out.
For those who would like an excellent place to discuss religion, politics or pretty much anything you can think of I highly recommend The Straightdope Message Boards. Unfortunately they make you pay a minimal yearly fee (partly to discourage drive-by posts) but you can post there a few times for free. If you have a burning desire to discuss what you cannot here that is the place. I cannot say enough good things about the quality of the posters there. Best I have found anywhere on the internet.

I don't mean to sayt hat it happens in every discussion on politics or religion; more that it is what happens fairly regularly, which is why a lot of boards don't encourage that kind of discussion, in order not to feed the trolls. I'm unsure what the reasoning is for the restriction here.

so if the mods lock a thread about it, its like saying
"creationism science? MY ASS! thats religious stuff!"
and thus making a statement?
i think thats a bad move ccp 
i foresee subscriptions decreasing because creationists are leaving the game left and right.

If CCP was based in the state of Kansas then apparently yes. Read Kansas school board redefines science. My country (the US) really scares me sometimes. But then, we have The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster in answer to that so maybe there is hope yet.
