Okay so i recently picked up the Asus Eee 4g, their version of the new UMPC. Lets start off with the specs:
Base System ------------- Xandros Linux - can be changed to XP Intel 900mhz Processer 512mb DDR2 667mhz PC5300 - upgradable to 2gb 4gb internal 'SSD' - solid state drive, OS boots in 10seconds XD Intel Shared Graphics Built in a/b/g wifi 3x USB2, VGA out, SD/SDHC card slot 4 cell L.ion Battery
The specs might not seem much but you need to take into account the Low Price just how Small this unit is. It has a 7' Screen and the unit is not much bigger than a DVD case. Now to the important part. EVE!!
Ingame: -------------------- Character Select Screen Station View Market Screen Skill Change
Size Comparison: -------------------- Dell Laptop + Screen DVD case Ipod + Phone Mini Fridge - I just like mini Fridges..... Eve Poster - Eve gallente Poster + Limited edition CD, + patience = Awesome!!!
With regard to anyone interested in the Tech Specs of the Unit. It has a 900mhz Processor which actually runs at 650. A quick bios update and you can manually adject it to the 900 stated. The unit also Does Not ship with windows installed. It comes with an Linux Distro called Xandros, which runs like a dream to be honest, the only reason i took it off was that i wanted to test out some games. Due to the graphics being shared with main memory you are generally limited with all games, within the next few days i will up this to 2gb of ram which will hopefully have a rather significant boost in performance.
PRICE: The price is the best part imo. this unit cost me 280euro on ebay, but those who arnt trusting of ebay you can pick them up at Amazon for roughly the same cost, although stocks are selling stupid fast so you might have to wait a while before you can actually pick one up.
By far the best 280euro i'v ever spend, i highly recommend it for people who want a portable eve, or just the coolest toy(yes it is a fully functioning laptop :p ) around. ..... and no, i dont work for Asus :) ------------------------------------------ - To Jumanji, or not to Jumanji...... - |

Since im not really in Linux, i would change the OS to WinXP. Wonder if this one is able to handle both XP and EVE at the same time. Any ideas/comments/whatever? Always dreamed of smacking some roids at college |

I forgot to upload out of station pics, but it IS possible to fly around, chat, trade.... pvp and combat are a no go however, at least with the 512mb ram currently installed, il retest combat when its changed to 2gb

Hintings of one with a 9' or 10' screen coming out the end of 08, it's likely that a bigger screen version will eventually come out regardless... just hope it doesnt come out costing much more than 300 - 400, to me the main appeal of the Eee is what you get for such a low price ------------------------------------------ - To Jumanji, or not to Jumanji...... - |

So, which BIOS is that? As I did a BIOS update the other day, while still running Xandros, but I haven't seen any speed changes. Also, which video drivers are you using? The standard ones as found on the DVD, or unofficial ones? You're at least correct in one thing, it's a very great little machine to have around, especially for the price :)

The Bios update does not automatically increase the CPU speed, it needs to be changed manually. Head over to Eee User Forums to get a quick guide on how thats done.
As for the graphics drivers, i installed XP then just used the standard drivers off the CD. There are some custom drivers out there but so far i havnt encountered any major problem(on XP anyway).
