Why is it we can only train one character at a time with EVE. With that in place, it's completely pointless to have 2 other character slots.
You have to get a second account to have a second character to actually use. Did they do this just so people would buy multiple accounts?
I think a second character is very usefull in the fact that i cause use them for hauling, recon, and other things.
Now granted, the way i use my second character, i'd need a second account anyway as i'm logged into both at the same time. But it would be nice if you could train all of your characters at the same time.
Anyone know the skinny on this? ____________________________________

CCP brought this in to stop power gamers from having an awsome advantage on casual players. Instead of building up character points ingame, which a power gamer would excel at, eve uses set real time skill training. Now as in other games where you get skills through playing alot, you can only play with one char so it is the same with skill traing in eve.
Go to the support part of the site, it says the same, but takes 2 or 3 pages

Actually i don't think you did answer it. I understand about the skill training vs other forms of getting skills/points. My question is why can you only do it with one character at a time.

Looks to be like Falco is complaining that he can only train one character at a time, not about the training system itself.
Some people still use their alts, and train some skills on them, I've kept my alts skills to a minimum so my main character can have the most advantage. I like it the way it is, I have enough to do on my one character, I think CCP didn't want one player to have a combat, industry and researcher all on one account, it makes you rely on other people, which is want CCP want. _________________________________________________________

Thanks Soren. Makes sense kinda... :)
My thought though is if you have a character that training a really long skill and you just wanted a diversion, it would be nice to be able to train skills on other characters for that given account at the same time if you are learning lower skills...
Oh well... ____________________________________

Best way to answer you...in other MMOGs, you gain xp from killing things while playing ONE CHARACTER. You don't gain xp on all the char's on your account. So, in Eve you gain skills via real time. Why should they allow you to gain skill w/ more than one character at a time, as every other MMOG doesn't allow this either.

There was an idea floating around about making training available for two characters on one account at a time where the skill training would go 75% skill pt growth to one character and 25% skill pt growth to another, but I don't think there was enough voice or feedback about it so it never took off.

In beta they allowed training of the 3 char slots all at one time but I think that was to get more feedback on different aspects from the limited ammount of ppl in beta.
Heck if they allowed for training of all 3 slots now I would have 3 chars all well over 10 mil skills points and not just one. A fighter and a refiner and a hauler. Makes ppl have to specialize a bit more.
This also keeps say 3 roomates from all just sharing one account heh. Its all about the isk ..... errrrr cash.

The point that's being made is that just like in any other MMOG you advance one character at a time, you can train skills on your second char but you'll have to pause training on the first. I don't see how that's any different from other MMOGs. Where you have to do stupid things like slay 3000 firegiants on your second char to advance but while doing that can't advance on the first char. Only difference is that this feels more limited cause you can't powergame it. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

never thought about doing it that way I just trained all learning to lvl 5 and implanted the sucker ( my second acounts main char ) and train everything on the same char on my second acount as well. But that's a good idea. /me starts wondering how long it would take to train a frigate char that I could afford to have die over and over again. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

While I agree with most of the stuff said above, i think that it all boils down to one, simple, money making point.
IF eve could have 2 characters training........ then each account could have more than one person playing on it. Albeit they couldn't be on at the same time, but two people could *easily* play from one subscription.
CCP have *no* reason to allow that....and im pretty sure it'd break the EULA aswell.

Lots of people have a refiner/science/production/salesman alt that never leaves a station with just those skills trained up. Not sure where these lardarse alts fit in with the 'risk vs reward' thing...

In other games you can plevel your alts though. In everquest for instance it is possible to get to level 65, with multiple aa points in less than 3 days if you powerlevel them right. Most other games have an option like this as well.
I think that you should be able to train up alts at the same time, especially since it's so slow to train characters in Eve anyway. If you want a dedicated industrial/producer/miner, researcher, and fighter, you should be able to do this. ATM, the only thing alts are used for is flame wars on the forums, or suicide kestral gate ganking.
In other words, the extra two character slots are basically worthless unless you want to cause trouble.

Alts aren't useless.
You can create one to join the glorious Eve-Radio n00b army!
They nearly took down a Maller last night, all flying an Ibis and armed with their Civvy Gatling guns before a Megathron came in system and wiped them all out. Sounded like a lot of fun though

When did they allow you to log in multiple times under the same account? All the times I've heard ppl powerleveling thier alts, it was via 2+ accounts.

Don't feel bad, the logic of having multiple characters without the ability to train is lost on nearly everyone coming to the game. The power play thing is understandable, but if that is the case just give us ONE charachter.
ESPECIALLY since most people who realy want to train multiple characters go ahead and buy two accounts so they may train both.
All those extra character let you do is scam other people since they can be deleted and recreated, its useless. Just make some faces so you have something to look at in the selection screen

IMHO if this is a alternative reality then each of the characters in our accounts are separate individuals unaware of each other and therefore they should be able to train separately. The amount of time it takes to get a good character will still be huge because of the time it takes to get the higher skills... I just think much as everyone else has said that this is just a way of getting more money. There was also the comment raised about using the alt characters to spy... well people are going to spy regardless fo whether this is with their alt characters or with their main characters... None of these arguments amount to anything... We should either have one character per account or we should be able to train the lot.

doh du............. the game is space the whole reason most of us play this game is because we wanted a game that would last a long time <take 2 or 2.5 years to train all skills lvl 5 supposedly maybe a lil longer so u can be all powerfull and this makes the eve universe thrive so it will be around in that time to even want to play itwhen u get tired of eve have some friend train ur skills while u dive into another game then come back to see all the changes and still be strong...

There isnt just one reason to have it so only one charater out of three possible can train any skill at one time.Technical as well as principle.you want three pultra powerful chracters at a time then pay the piper buy the accounts. You want three divere mid range characters then by all means train your alts one at a time. This is a game about choices and developing your character is usually the most critical one.
