Ok...could someone please give me a quick run down on how to use ore containers. Can't seem to find that thread or point me to a good description.
I see u can buy them but how do u get them out to ore fields, fill them up and then bring the ore back for refining. And how do haulers fit into this picture.
Thanks...

Edited by: Fighterpilotjp on 30/03/2004 01:47:53 I've never purchased a secure container to mine into. I simply jettison ore as I mine into a normal cargo container (replacing it every hour) and haul it all afterwards. However, anyone may access these containers, and the fact that it's "your can" is definitely not a strong argument when someone takes what you've stored. As they say, what you jettison into space must be something you don't want. If you want to use secure containers, you must train anchoring (can't offer many details on the skill myself) and use a hauler to drag it to wherever you'd like to place it in space. It can then be set with a password, but I'm not sure how long it lasts. Another side note, they've made it so that you can no longer anchor cans in 0.8 and above security rated systems (someone correct me if that's not correct) for reasons that should be obvious enough by now. |

Apparently, secured cans last forever...at least, that's what my Corp tells me (n00b here).

take one hauler, 3000m3 cargo space, and haul out a giant secure can, 3000 volume but takes 3900m3 cargo (good expander). haul it out to where you want to mine, note you can't get too close to the roids, then drop off and anchor the can. Go back to base, pick up your miner (say imicus with 2 miner II's) and mine into the can until it's full, then swap to your hauler and empty the can and move it if needed.
Yes it's a lot of work but if you are a solo miner then it's the only way to go. Best to mine in a group with someone hauling.

Thnx much yoda...just what i needed to know. Two more question: what if any skills will i will need for this and how do i "place" the ores in the container when i am mining? I assume i can simply grab them with my hauler when i bring it back out.
Thanx again...

Anchoring skill to anchor it (a right click option to launch it from your cargo hold and then another right click option to anchor it when it is in space) - its a corporate skill I think. You set the password on the container, open it and then simply drag the ore from your hold to the container as you mine (need to be within 1500m)
